I am reminded of the "Power of Yet", and the idea we are never done learning and growing. In my own personal journey, I never took a traditional path, but have taken on new opportunities as they have presented themselves. And when new barrier arose, it became an opportunity to learn and adjust.

Validating Emotions vs. Empowering a Growth Mindset

Though I think having a growth mindset about your ability to change your mood and circumstances is very valuable, I think telling people to have a "positive attitude" about a situation can sometimes invalidate someone's emotions. The person should first be able to identify and work through their feelings. Though the speaker was very inspirational, the video itself can be accidentally shaming to someone implying they should be able to move through sadness or anxiety quicker as he has a positive attitude and has a much more challenging situation than the typical person. Also, implying someone just needs to remember or hear "you are beautiful" is not typically what is at the core of someone's eating disorder. This common misconception adds to the stigma of eating disorders implying a subtle shift in your thinking will create wellness. In actuality, eating disorders are typically an unhealthy coping skill created in response to strong unpleasant emotions, trauma, or other challenges and require clinical significant support to change.

Although I marked most of the growth mindset, I still find myself being fixed at times.; probably more than I care to admit. It's through perseverance that I try to focus on growth mindset because I believe that is how an individual develops.
