During puberty rapid growth can cause weight gain and clumsiness in any teen, but it can be even harder for someone who has CP. It can make it hard for them to move around and their muscles can become tighter as their bones grow which can restrict their movement even more.

It can be difficult for teens with CP to socialize or be independent and this can be very frustrating if the teen starts to feel like they are different from their peers

There are lots of ways to treat and manage CP. Some teens have only mild problems with movement others need crutches or wheelchairs to get around. Some teens may take medicines to relax their muscles and some may have special surgeries to keep their arms and legs straighter and more flexible. Surgery can also help fix dislocated hips and scoliosis. Eating a diet that’s high calcium, and vitamin D can improve bone health and help keep bones strong.
