Gus Johnson discovered the supernova when he took a young man, from his church, on a tour of the Coma-Virgo Cluster. They viewed M100 and Gus felt he should check on a little star near the galaxy's edge. Gus put off checking it until the next day, April 19th, he did not find the star on a Palomar photo so he phoned AAVSO (American Association of Variable Star Observers) of a possible supernova.   • The SN 1979C may contain the youngest black hole in the cosmic neighborhood. If the SN 1979C certainly does contain a black hole it may give astronomers an opportunity to gain more information about which stars create black holes and which stars form neutron stars.
