Kids are forced to remain on campus due to a deadly disease that is spread by teens. This disease kills all other humans who are older or younger than a teenager instantly.

The conflict of Quarantine; The Loners, goes hand in hand with the setting. The students cannot leave their school.
There is also another conflict, and this one is another boy who is Davids' age; Sam Howell. Sam Howell was the Varsity Quarterback, and after getting beat up by David at a party, Sam wants David dead. Since The disease is very deadly, the government doesn't really care if a student kills another student. Sam tries many times to kill David but never successfully kills him. This leaves the students in less scared of Sam than they were before.

Also, many of his gang members admire him. I know this because a mural was made in his honor with David and outlines of peoples faces on a huge wall.
He lead his group out of the school, while he was about to die from the disease hitting him as well.

BOOK REVIEW

I personally enjoyed the book quite a lot. David is a character that I love because he is so unpredictable. Sometimes it is bad though. He cheated on his girlfriend with his ex, but we all do that; right? The book is told in the third person, but it focuses on different characters for different chapters. The 3 other characters that are focused on is Davids' younger brother, Will. Another is Lucy, a love interest to both Will and David. Lucy is unsure of who to choose, and this causes even more problems in the life of David. The third perspective is Sam, the antagonist. You can figure out what Sam wants to do with David before he carries out his master plans and his mental struggles. David changed a lot in this book because he went from a no-life scrap to an admirable leader with lots of adulation. The ending is in a few more books because this is the start of a series. I'm not sure if I like the book enough to finish reading the series since it probably will end up like all other books, where a bunch of kids fight against the government. I've read too many of those books.
