Weaknesses in Professional Communication and How the Module Helped:

One key weakness I identified in my communication was speaking too fast, especially during presentations, which made it difficult for the audience to follow my points. I also lacked confidence when presenting in front of others, often second-guessing myself or pausing awkwardly. This module helped me become more aware of my pace and delivery. Through practice sessions, peer feedback, and learning techniques like pausing intentionally and signposting, I’ve learned how to manage my nerves and speak more clearly and confidently.

2. Most Improved Aspect of Communication:

The most improved aspect of my communication is my oral delivery. As a result, I now come across as more composed and professional during presentations and meetings.

3. Further Improvement Needed:

While I’ve made progress, I still want to continue building my confidence, especially in spontaneous speaking situations like Q&A or impromptu discussions. I also want to refine my vocal variety and tone to sound more engaging and authoritative.

4. Confidence as a Communicator:

Yes, I am now a more confident communicator. The consistent practice and feedback in this module gave me the tools and experience to manage anxiety and present my ideas more effectively. I now feel more comfortable speaking in both formal and informal professional settings.

Q1 I learnt through this module that every time I do a presentation I will choke and stumble on my words. Especially when I am not fully prepared and I need to come up with the right key words on the spot. However this module has given me alot of presentation practice, even impromptu ones, that push me out of my comfort zone and forces me to overcome it if I want a perfect presentation

Q2 I think my most improved is my eye contact with the audience and also audience awareness. Knowing who I am speaking to is very important.

Q3 I still need alot of practice when it comes to speaking on the spot without preperation. Having the right words and mind clarity when doing an impromptu presentation is still difficult to me as I prefer to have a script in my mind.

Q4 Yes! I think I am. I didnt stumble or choke during the final presentation and after doing alot of presentation practices during this module I feel more confident and willing to do presentations and not so like "wah must do presentation...." :)

This not only helps my audience understand me better, but it has also helped me reduce stuttering significantly.

I’ve also become more aware of my pacing and tone, which has helped me come across as more composed and confident.

Q3)

I want to improve my vocal modulation, varying my pitch and tone more effectively to keep the audience engaged. I also want to work on eliminating filler words like "um" and "like" to sound more polished. Lastly, I hope to enhance my storytelling skills so I can connect more emotionally with my audience.

Q4)

Yes, I definitely feel like a more confident communicator now. With practice and reflection, I’ve become more aware of my strengths and areas for improvement.

Are you a more confident communicator now? Explain your response.

Yes. Since I have learnt a lot about professional communication skills, I am a more confident communicator. For example, I learnt to craft compelling business proposals and deliver persuasive pitch speeches to captivate stakeholders and drive impactful outcomes. Some elements are crucial in the proposal to make it more complete, and some specific techniques like pathos, logos, and ethos are very effective in terms of persuading the audience to agree with my proposal. During the pitch, how I use my hand gestures, make eye contact and interact with the slides are some points contributing to a successful speech. I learnt that when I prepare the slides, I need to think specifically to cater to the target audience. For instance, I should use images of Asian children when the audience is from an Asian school. There should not be too many words on the slide, listing out the bullet points would be enough. These skills I learnt make me more confident, as I know I am more professional and persuasive.

I often hesitated to share my ideas out of fear that they weren’t good enough. This module helped me overcome that by encouraging active participation. Group activities and class presentations gradually helped me become more comfortable speaking up and contributing meaningfully.

2. The biggest improvement has been my participation in group discussions. I’ve learned how to structure my points and respond constructively to others. This has made me more engaged in collaborative settings and better at contributing to shared goals.

3.I still need to work on developing a stronger professional vocabulary. Sometimes I struggle to find the right words in formal conversations or written reports. I plan to read more industry-specific materials and practice using professional terminology to express my ideas more effectively.

4. Yes, I am. I’ve gained the confidence to speak up and engage in conversations I would’ve avoided before. The supportive learning environment and regular practice have helped me recognize the value of my input and communicate it more clearly and confidently.

This module made me more aware that when it comes to communicating in a professional manner, I need to be more discrete and strategic when it comes to delivering negative comments. At times, I tend to be a blunt because thats how i like to receive comments from others but that doesn't necessarily mean its a 2 way thing. In the workforce, it is crucial that I am quick to pickup on my colleagues behaviours as it will guide me in the way I talk and communicate with them.

This module has developed and matured me in a way I didn't expect. Prior to this course, I felt like I was a very unclear and not concise when it came to verbalising my thoughts. I also had a habit of bullshitting my way through situations which backing up my bullshit. One of my greatest takeaways is to ALWAYS back up my ideas with evidence (linking back to ethos, pathos, logos), it is paramount to connect on a emotional and statistical manner as it will ultimately make my ideas/pitch/bullshit more convincing.

I think i need to work on working better in a group environment, maybe not so closely linked to communication but i realised my way of working differs greatly from others. I am very meticulous and I feel pressure even when there isnt. This makes me strive for perfection from a very early stage and thus I tend to redo content to suit my liking without prior notifing others which may come off as rude

I am a much more confident communicator. Even before, I think i was already very open to communicating and I would humbly say I am a good communicator but this module highlighted my areas of weakness and ultimately shed light on what I can work on to better myself.

What weakness or weaknesses have you identified in your professional communication and how has this module helped you to address these weaknesses?

One of the weaknesses I identified was my lack of confidence, especially during presentation. I tend to second guess myself, relied heavily on scripts while maintaining eye contact and also found it difficult to give feedback to others as I was afraid of offending them or causing conflict. This module has helped me confront these challenges head on and I really felt that I was able to grow from each presentation and slowly step out of my comfort zone. I slowly became more aware of my body language, eye contact and also how to design my slide as I have written above on my previous weeks reflection and I feel like I have become an overall more confident person.

2. What is the most improved aspect of your communication since you started this module?

I would say the most improved aspect of my communication is definitely my presentation confidence. At the start of the module I was very reliant on my phone and was not confident enough to memorise and just present because I was afraid I would mess up and forget. However, over time I got better and better and was able to even maintain eye contact with the audience without a script. I began to use gestures like pointing at the screen to be a bit more engaging and even though I still get nervous, I feel happy and satisfied that I have proven to myself that I am able to be an okay presenter by pushing through my lack of confidence.

3. What further improvement to your professional communication do you think you need to work on beyond this module?

Moving forward, I would definitely want to work on having confidence in high-pressure situations. Even though overall I improved in terms of presentation, there is a lot of room for improvement and I noticed that presenting in front of a large group still makes me a bit nervous and I will have a bit of visible nervousness showing from things like my hands shaking. I also definitely want to improve on my ability to give constructive feedback confidently and make sure that I am able to convey my message professionally and with empathy so that I can communicate effectively in the workplace.

Are you a more confident communicator now? Explain your response.

Yes I definitely do feel like a more confident communicator now. While I still get nervous I feel like I've learned that confidence doesn't really mean the complete absence of fear but maybe it is the ability to push through and still perform. I have learned that even if I start off anxious, if I can push through that fear and seem confident enough, I will still be able to present effectively and leave a strong impression. I may not be the most effective or confident presenter in the room but I am happy with how much I have grown throughout this module and I will definitely keep building on this foundation and become a more confident person in the workplace in the future

One key weakness I identified was during my first presentation practice. I relied too much on my script, which affected my eye contact and delivery. This was when I didn’t practise enough and had to read off the script to present. With more practices for future presentations and feedback, I learned to rehearse better and speak more naturally, which helped me connect with the audience more effectively.

My presentation delivery has improved the most. I’m now more confident speaking without a script, provided I have practised and rehearsed, and I’ve learned to pace myself better and engage the audience with clearer structure and tone.

I want to work on making my delivery more dynamic, using better storytelling and gestures to hold attention, especially in high-stakes or professional settings.

Yes, definitely. After all the practice and feedback, especially during the final pitch, I felt more prepared and natural. I could speak clearly and confidently and was able to deliver the pitch to the best of my abilities.

As an international student, this module has also helped me become more comfortable communicating in a diverse and fast-paced environment. It’s definitely pushed me to adapt and grow as a better professional individual
