School was never a priority. School and education was for the wealthy, due to such high cost. One person, now known as the "father of American public schools", wanted to make in a change in society.

Horace Mann always believed that everyone should be able to have an education. He spoke about how an education can solve problems in society, like crime and poverty. Later years, the state of Massachusetts voted on paying taxes to build schools, pay teachers, and train others to teach. Mann's ideas about proper education spread around the entire country, and increased the amount of schools. Things weren't like we have it today, but some were brave to stand up to make it better. Women like Lucreita Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone, and more, all had the courage to change the restricting laws.

In 1840, women weren't allowed to talk about slavery simply because they were women. Lucreita Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were outraged. Women already did not have the rights, not allowed to vote and all their property belonged to their husbands. Both women decided to host  a convention at Seneca Falls, New York, marking the beginning of the Women's Rights Movement. 

At the Seneca Falls Convention, Women gathered together to stand up for theirs rights. They demanded for equality. They even wrote the Declaration of Sentiments, inspired by the Declaration of Independence.
