Three dimensions not directly observed in the multiple case studies include community power, community values, and sense of community. It makes me wonder why community values and, in particular, sense of community were not observed. I feel that for a community to successfully apply most of the CHD dimensions observed in the three communities, they need to feel at least like they belong to the community and have some form of emotional connection, including shared history and values. For example, the dimensions of community capacity, community values, and understanding of community history are encompassed in the characteristics of sense of community (membership, influence, fulfillment of needs, and emotional connection). Having some more explicit definitions or consolidation of the dimensions might make it easier to observe within communities. (Dera)
