I love the outdoors, from rock climbing, hiking, to skiing. I love to get outside when I can.  I also enjoy playing "tourist" and exploring new towns and local histories. Finally, I could spend hours in a bookstore lingering over pages in children's literature.

For anyone who knows the area please let me know your top spots to explore whether it's a hiking trail or a neat little town to explore.  This will help me in putting together my California Bucket List (I always start these lists when I join a new community).

I have a mental health radio show (internet based), a podcast (on mental health), and am working on developing a children's educational television show focusing on mental health and other valuable life lessons. I am also a social justice seeker, giving talks on gender justice and spiritual practices, for a more inclusive world.

When I am ready to unplug from the world, I enjoy meditation and use it extensively. While meditating, I enjoy being closer to where natural nature tends to exist in greater abundance. 

My greatest motivation to live life to the fullest is my partner as we enjoy spending time with our pets (cat and turtle), family, and friends. I am always up for a chat over a nice cup of coffee or tea.

I am a new Assistant Professor in the History Department.  I teach ethnic/immigration history, public history, and US history surveys.  My research focuses on U.S. immigration policy history and the human experience of, especially, undocumented immigrants and people detained by US immigration regimes (INS then ICE) in the post-WWII era.

As a first-generation college graduate and graduate student and as a former undergraduate academic advisor, I look forward helping our students navigate both my classes and their higher education paths.

During the last few days I felt very welcome and truly happy to be here.
What I learned is that I have even more in common with the student population than I thought, and that it might be helpful that I share that. My life journey was very rocky. But now I am a tenure-track faculty in the Computer Science department! If I could do it, our students can do it too. 
I've spent the last year knitting. It's like programming, but the results are real. :) I made myself a new faculty wardrobe. And what's nice about it is when I get bored of it, I can tear it up and knit something else again. Sustainable fashion!
