They are meant to be eaten but when people try to cook them they burst into flames. Malcolm (the leader of the exploration) thinks that they can be used for fuel as hey have none. There are weird biorhythm on the radar and everyone wonders what they are. Pattie's father wants to be a Contriver. Someone who makes materials. He wants to make clothes. The children think that is strange because they think that they will not need clothes. One pushed Pattie and that is how they were discovered. The boulder valley is actually the chrysalis of the moth people. The people did not try to kill the moth people they just looked at them in awe. There skin sheds and there wings fall of. Without there wings they cannot fly so they drop down and die. Remember in the begging how the children and adults chose there books. Each book shows what each person likes. Sarah likes pony's, Jason likes adventure, and I don't know what Pattie likes because she brought and empty book. Or so we thought.
