      <description> For our first lecture we were asked to take pictures of various learning spaces and during our second lecture we discussed the learning spaces we took pictures of. Prior to this activity I thought of a learning space as only an academic space such as classroom or a library. However, this activity allowed me to view learning in a new light as when I walked around the town I live in I noticed a variety of places where learning takes place. Such as in the local driving school, the church, the youth club, the library, the internet café, the rugby and GAA club, the primary and secondary schools and the yoga center.  
After exploring the learning spaces in the town I live in I decided to analyse them further. I noticed learning can be both practical such as in the case of the driving school and the rugby and GAA club. I noticed learning can also be both formal and informal. Formal learning takes place in the primary and secondary school as students are required to learn a curriculum and sit state examinations. While informal learning takes place in the youth club as students take part in a variety of projects.  
In recent times classroom learning spaces have changed. As often in classrooms today we see clusters of tables dividing students into groups rather than rows of chairs and desks facing a board. This modern learning space allows for students to do group work, have discussions, experiment and be active in their learning. Therefore, this learning space adheres to the teaching techniques in place. As Learning spaces should provide the functional requirements to support teaching techniques and the learning theories in use (Fraser, 2014). Learning spaces have a large impact on the form of learning that will take place. As certain educational activities cannot be facilitated if the learning space is not suitable. Teachers, curriculum designers, and learners must scale their aspirations for learning experiences based on the learning environment (Skill &amp; Young, 2002). Displaying the importance learning spaces have on ones learning experience. 
To conclude learning takes place in a number of spaces outside of formal schools. Also, it is clear learning spaces can have a large impact on the learning process in schools and other spaces of learning. This impact can be negative or positive depending on the flexibility and suitability of the learning space to the learning goal.   </description>
