1. I think that it is really interesting that all I have heard on the news about schools and the kids is all about learning. Where as Forest Hills and other schools had made it very clear that they care more about the students mental health than getting the work done on time.
2. I was surprised to see how big the hail was. I have seen hail before, but never that big!
3. One thing that was related to something that we have learned so far was the floating house. This relates to how people had to adapt to changing life during WW2, not only with life in the war but life at the home front.

1. I think it’s scary to think how behind we will be in classes next year after loosing so much time in subjects that build each year.
I definitely already feel like I am not retaining any information we have learned or are trying to learn online
2. It surprised me to see how big those hail stones were. It’s terrifying.
3. The sportscasters reporting on things in everyday life reminds me of Cinderella man and how he had to start boxing again to make money for his family during the Great Depression
4. I agree with Olivia on the size of hail. I’ve never see such ginormous hail stones.

1. It's crazy to hear the blatant truth about how literally no one is in school right now. Everyone is missing schools plays/musicals, sports games, proms, graduation, etc.
2. I was surprised that kids in grades 3-8 may have as much as a 50% setback in their math learning, and setback with reading and language as well. That's really scary, even for high schoolers.
3. This time of struggle for learning reminds me of when we would learn about times where some people wouldn't even attend school and have an education.
4. I agree with Grace, it is really scary how much we may be behind in school next year.

1. It's crazy to hear how schools are closed in all 50 states. It's also sad that everyone is missing school activities such as sports, plays, etc.
2. It surprised me how big those hail stones can get. It could really injure anything.
3. Floating off the grid, when he said he gets land sick it reminded me of how people after WW2 had to adapt to the new daily life. He lives a different life than most of us and we would each have to adapt to his lifestyle as he would ours.
4. I agree with Grace, it is crazy for how some schools may get very behind with learning due to this crisis. I also agree with Brooke, it is crazy how 3-8 graders might have a 50% setback.

Secondly, I'm surprised to hear that some schools may have the option to resume school before summer break.
2. One thing that surprised me was how big that hail got! Hailstones with up to 9.3in diameter are massive and cause massive damage.
3. A bit hard to comprehend, but baseball and its commentators were very important in the mid 1900s U.S. culture. Baseball was very popular, and the sports commentators had quite a job of keeping the audience engaged and entertained, like our sports commentators are doing now with regular footage of the streets and backyards.
4. I agree with Olivia, seeing how the man and his wife adapted and built a prospering island with greenhouses, even a dance floor shows how people adapt to their situation.

1. I never thought of the US territories also closing down schools as well as the 50 states. Another thing I didn't really think about was the summer setback in learning, how it might render this year's education useless.
2. I'm surprised those people can live on a floating island all by themselves; it seems they even have an oven and stovetop. Also, what would happen in the case of a tornado or some other natural disaster?
3. This is a bit of the stretch, but the hailstones being so large and dangerous reminds me of when Hitler couldn't invade the USSR in WWII because of the weather and season.

I don't think that is a good idea because it could spread the corona virus even more and maybe lead to next school year. Especially with 50 states on closing.
2. I was surprised to see that two people are living on a floating island they built themselves and it weighs 500 tons! They don't have any access to roads and can only move by water.
3. This relates to what we have learned in History because I'm sure there were many times during wars or the great depression, where kids were falling behind in school and education.

It is also crazy to hear that the learning loss is going to increase because of the break from coronavirus. This isn't good especially since Junior year is next year, and that is labeled as the hardest year in high school.
2. It surprised to me to see how big the hail was that fell in Argentina. I didn't realize hail could be that big, and I would've been really scared if I was a local when this hailstorm arrived.
3. This time of struggle reminds me of all of the different times of struggle that we have talked about throughout this year.

Another thing that I never thought of is that all 50 states and the territories would close down schools. You would think that some places would have their schools open.
2. The size of the hail that came down surprised me. The hail was as big as a persons hand. When the hail hit the ground the impact and noise it made was so big. I would think that if a person got hit by one they would probably get killed.
3. The floating island/home is similar to how people had to adapt during the Great Depression and the wars, since some people had victory gardens to grow food.

From something as short as dances to a whole sport season, all of it have been canceled due to the virus. My second "aha" moment is realizing how much we are going to forget because we don't have school despite remote learning. We usually have to review some old topics when school starts because of summer break, but how much do we have to review when the Corona break is finished because it's almost double the amount of time of summer break.
2. Something that surprised me is how big a hailstone can be. It must be terrifying to see a hail storm with that big of hailstones.
3. The gardens the couple on the island planted can be related to the victory garden that was implemented during World War 2. Both of these situation occurred because it was difficult to get food out on the market.
4. I agree with Derrick that if one of the hailstone hits a person, there would be very little chance of him/her surviving.
1) The first “aha” moment that I had was that NASA is having a space launch that is scheduled for later this month, which is really weird considering that everything has been shut down. In addition, my second “aha” moment that I had was that the launch will be in a newly designed space craft since 1981, and they will be launching aboard a Space-X capsule for the first time ever. 2) Something that surprised me was that the new capsule has touch screens and far fewer switches than previous space shuttles. It’s really cool that if all goes to plan, the flight will be mostly automated. 3) This video relates to what we have talked about in class because it mentions the preservation of culture and history from the past. Similarly, we have talked about the burial sites of soldiers that have also been remembered for their service.

Likewise, It is interesting that Canada may be looking to increase border security. In the past, getting into Canada has been expedient and simple, it looks like that could be changing.
2. One thing that surprised me about today's show was how slime forms a perfect sphere in space.
3. Something that can be related from today's video to what we have learned in U.S. History is the involvement of ships for the D-Day assault. Although the USS Nevada was severely damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USS Nevada stayed afloat and helped shell the beaches and ferry supplies and troops to make the landing possible.

It’s sad to see that some restaurant owners have to increase their prices and even exclude some meat from their menus.

3) This video relates back to what we have talked about in class because it discussed how the USS Nevada was the only U.S. battleship to get underway during the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. Similarly, we also talked about the events that happened during Pearl Harbor.

Certainly an interesting measure of the economic impact of corona. It makes sense that people are trying to hurry the economy back to its former glory to stop these effects from worsening.
2. I'm surprised that they sent slime up to the ISS. You'd think that with every trip to the ISS being insanely expensive, they wouldn't waste any of their cargo space on a novelty product like slime.
3. They have lots of people yet are very poor, so I wonder how they are going to deal with this natural disaster. It is also terrible how this storm is happening during a pandemic.
2. It surprised me to see how different countries are planning to reopen this summer. For example, some cities in Spain are planning to use a grid system to divide their beaches. I think this is very creative and hopefully it will work to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.
3. The storm that CNN talked about, in the beginning, reminds me of all of the natural disasters we have talked about this year. For example the dust bowls and flooding.

Another aha moment was seeing how certain European towns will parcel up their beaches to enforce social distancing, I wonder if beaches along Lake Michigan will have to do the same.
2. One thing that surprised me from today's video was sports teams are now allowed to practice together in Spain, but only 10 athletes or fewer, I wonder how that's gonna work out.
3. One thing that is connected or related to what we have studied this year in US History is the importance of sports for people. During the great depression, people looked to boxing to give them hope, and the same is happening today.
