ABC Reading Magic series. This app is designed to help children practice reading and saying the words and letters aloud. It focuses on 5 different levels such as CVC words, CCVC and CVCC words, two-syllable words, phonograms diagraphs, vowel-r, vowel team syllables in one- and two-syllable words, and VC-silent-e words.

Instructions: The instructions are clear, however I think a child may find it somewhat confusing. It shows the word and a picture of the word, but when you click on it goes away and I did not know what to do next until I started clicking random buttons.

Scaffolding: There are different levels as to what kids can do and they are pretty clear as to what would be appropriate for which age group of children.

Opportunities for practice: This app is simple enough where children can use it whenever, but I think over time it might not be as helpful as it was at first.

Feedback: This part was confusing for me to figure out because there are no wrong answers. Going through the words you just read them and say them aloud with the app. So as for feedback, there isn't really any.

Validated: The developer also developed a couple other educational apps. It is a group of educators and they incorporated accelerated learning techniques and Montessori principles to develop the app.

Sound and Images: The sounds and images in the app were very high quality and clear. From a child's perspective it would be pretty easy to figure out what the pictures and sounds were saying.

User-friendly: It is fairly user-friendly, but it isn't too clear off the bat how the app is used. After some tinkering with it, I was able to easily navigate the app.

Ongoing progress monitoring: I think this app would be best used outside of school and more of an at home practice, because it can easily be monitored by parents. If parents observe the child playing with the app, they can see the progress.

ELL: It is pretty friendly with ELL students, and it is very simple to the point where children just learning English can benefit greatly.

Starfall ABCs. I used to use starfall when I was younger, so I wanted to see if was still all I remembered it to be.

Instructions: The instructions are pretty clear as for what it to be done, especially since the website guides you through the whole program.

Scaffolding: As for this specific website from Starfall, there isn't much scaffolding. As you progress through the letters each game gets a little more challenging, but there aren't different levels right off the bat, you have to work up to it.

Opportunities for practice: This website is easy where children can do it over and over again and keep getting the repetition practice. Eventually after a while the website will not be as helpful as it was at the start since there aren't too many options.

Feedback: When the answer is incorrect, the website does a good job at making sure the child knows what they did wrong. With that being said, it is less of an answer-based practice more of an exploratory practice.

Validated: Starfall is a highly validated, and reliable website. It used school wide and provides a lot of different helpful aids on their website.

Sounds and Images: There are ample sounds and images in the website that are helpful and appropriate for children to learn from.

User-friendly: For children, the website is pretty user friendly and truly guides students through the website as they go through the letters.

Ongoing progress monitoring: This can be progressed fairly easily by both parents and teachers. There isn't much that keeps track on the website though it refreshes every time you go on the website.

ELL: This is an excellent source for ELL because it goes in depth with explaining each letter and gives tons of examples of how it sounds.

Loudcrow Interactive

Instructions: It is pretty resourceful, and it guided the child through the reading activities as they read.

Scaffolding: There are many different books to read from on the website with different levels of text, which makes it more accessible to all children.

Opportunities for practice: There are lots of different books and materials to choose from so there is tons of practice that can be done.

Feedback: Since it guides the child through the reading, there are not too many questions to be answered. So, there is not much feedback either.

Validated: The website has been around for quite some time, so it is a pretty reliable resource.

Sounds and images: During the interactive readings, the actual book is being used with accurate images and pictures. As well as the sound that is provided with the book.

User-friendly: It was designed for kids, and it truly is child friendly to use, and is fairly easy to navigate.

Ongoing progress monitoring: It is easy for both parents and teachers to keep track of what books the students use, and how many they have read.

ELL: This is a great resource for ELLs and the practice using the interactive reading can really strengthen their skills.

List of English Suffixes

Instruction: The website is much of just a helpful resource rather than it being interactive, so there isn't much instruction.

Scaffolding: Yet again this is just a helpful resource so there isn't much scaffolding, just a large variety of words and suffixes students can learn the meanings to.

Opportunities for practice: This is not a website you can practice on, especially for kids they will not be engaged enough to sit there and read the whole list of words.

Feedback: The website does not provide any feedback.

Validated: The website seems fairly reliable, and provided ample words and definitions children can learn about.

Sounds and Images: There are no images, however there are sound buttons where the audio for a suffix can be played aloud.

User-friendly: The website is user-friendly just because there is not much to explore there is just a list of words and suffixes.

Ongoing progress monitoring: All of the monitoring would have to be done outside of the website, since the website does not keep track of the students' progress with what suffixes they have learned.

ELL: This would definitely be a great resource for ELLs to have on hand when working with suffixes, just so they can refer back to it.

Project Gutenberg

Instructions: There are no instructions for what to do since it is self-explanatory, and it is just a resource for eBooks.

Scaffolding: There are many different levels of text in the variety of books they provide so all levels of readers or being covered.

Opportunities for practice: Since there are so many books, there are lots of different reading opportunities for students. They can go back and find a different book to read every time, or if they wanted to read the same book again and still learn from that.

Feedback: There is no feedback since it is just a website with eBooks.

Validated: The website seems pretty reliable in my opinion due to the wide variety of text they have.

Sounds and Images: There are both sounds and images in the books. The sounds are optional, there is a button that can read the text aloud to anyone who needs it.

User-friendly: It is pretty user friendly and can be easily navigated by anyone.

Ongoing progress monitoring: Again, since it is just a resource, the progress monitoring has to be done outside of the website with a parent or teacher. The website does not keep progress of the child's reading.

ELL: This is a great resource for ELLs because of the wide variety of text, they can easily find a book that is best suited to their reading level and practice their comprehension.
