A baroque city kissed by the sun and the beautifull see, between the white of the local stone and the colour of the earth, Lecce has an unistakable style with monuments dating back to Roman timesand. Distinguished by its columns, arches and numerous rose windows. Lecce conquers with the archeological remains of Roman rule of 17° - century baroque. A tour of the city must start at the LECCE CATHEDRAL. It is characterised by a bell tower and two facades, one very sober, the other richly decorated. We then move on to the PIAZZA DI SANT ORONZO , named after the city's patron saint. Here you will confronted with a masterpiece of historical evidence telling of its different eras. Not to be missed, then: PORTA NAPOLI , a triumphant arch gateway that leads directly to the city' s historic centre, and the BASILICA di SANTA CROCE in LECCE, the most significant example of Lecce Baroque with facade sumptuous decorations . Beautiful and off the beaten track, the CHURCH OF SAN MATTEO ia a Baroque Catholic place of worship with a distinctive facade : a concave and smooth upper part, a convex lower part decorated with scales and ashlars. VICO del THEUTRA will astound the most curious : in Lecce's historical centre, the corner with Via Federico D'Aragona, you can see a small woman's face carved on the building between the two street . Commissioned by a boy who had lost his beloved, it tells of a poignant love.

Other points of interest there are ROMAN AMPHITHEATRE, PORTA RUDIAE. THE CASTLE OF CHARLES V and the ABBEY of SANTA MARIA di CERATE. At the MUSEUM OF SIGISMONDO CASTROMEDIANO, the oldest archeological museum in Aqulia, wich also has a small picture gallery and a lapidary, with remains of the Messapian civilisation and Roman settlements. A visit to the MURA URBICHE of LECCE is obviously a most: built by Charles V to curb Turkish incursions, an important testimony of 16th century fortification . The sea in Lecce is and remain a wonderfull pastime with some of the most beautifull beaches in Italy scattered along the wide coastal area.

The municipality of Galatina in the province of Lecce (Salento-Puglia) extends for approximately 82.00 km² and is located on the eastern side of a slight hill. The center is 78 meters above sea level, it slopes down to 39 meters towards Soleto above sea level. and reaches 84 meters above sea level. towards Galatone. The hamlets of Galatina are Collemeto, Noha and S. Barbara and it borders to the north with the municipalities of Copertino and Lequile, to the east with the municipalities of Soleto and Corigliano d'Otranto, to the south with the municipalities of Sogliano Cavour, Cutrofiano, Aradeo and Seclì, to the west the municipalities of Galatone and Nardò.The origin of the name appears to be the term "Galathena", from the Greek etymology gala-gàlactos, meaning milk, with reference to the fruitful, fertile and productive area of pastures and dairy products. According to some scholars, "Galatina" derives from the Greek name Galatos, while for others, who believe that the origins of the town can be attributed to the Thessalians, the toponym is linked to the name of Galatena, the city of origin of that people. Still others maintain that it descends from Galata, daughter of Theseus. Probably, the safest scientific interpretation is that given by Gerhard Rohlfs, according to whom the term derives from a family named Galati, of which, through the Greek suffix-inos, we would have Galatini: therefore, the citizens of Galatina should not be called Galatinesi but Galatini.

Galatina, in the province of Lecce, is rich in historical points of interest. Some of the most well-known places include the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, famous for its frescoes, and the Mother Church of San Pietro e Paolo, with its Baroque facade. Then there's the Palazzo del Principe di Galatina and the Civic Museum of Natural History, which houses a vast collection of archaeological artifacts.

Certainly! Here's a brief description of the historical points of interest mentioned:

1. Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria: This basilica is a masterpiece of Lecce Baroque. Built in the 14th century, it is famous for its frescoes, including the renowned pictorial cycle of the "Last Judgment" attributed to Giacomo della Marca.
