         <title>Chapter Overview</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In this chapter I learned about nine different ways that you can improve your overall health with communication. These nine ways to improve your communication includes learning to listen, being aware of other people's emotions, empathy, encouragement, learning to communicate <br>effectively, using humor, treating people equally, attempting to solve conflicts, and maintaining a positive attitude and smile. Out of listed processes that contribute to healthy communication, there were three that stood out to me the most.  They include learning to listen, empathy, and treating people equally. In learning to listen, you want to do more than just hear the words that are being spoken. There are also non-verbal messages that will come through while a person is speaking. To listen carefully you will need to use many different techniques, “Use the techniques of clarification and reflection to confirm what the other person has said and avoid any confusion" (Improving Communication, 2). While the person is speaking, you do not want to think about something else while they are speaking. This will distract you from the message that they are trying to get across while they are speaking. The next way of improving communication is empathize. While people are speaking you don't want to judge anyone based on their beliefs. Keep in mind of the speakers feelings, “Empathy is trying to see things from the point-of-view of others" (Improving Communication, 3).  Looking at the speakers point of view can help you view the conversation more clearly from many different ways. The final way of improving communication is treating people equally. Always treat people on an equal basis, “Do not talk about others behind their backs and try not to develop favorites: by treating people as your equal and also equal to each other you will build trust and respect" (Improving Communication, 4). When the speaker is done talking, make sure you understand what they were talking about. If you do not understand what they said, you should ask for clarification. All of these and more contribute to a healthier way of life by improving your communication not only in your home but in your work as well.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Situation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During 4-H we choose a theme for our fair booth every year. I am the president of our club and I run the meetings. While we are choosing a booth theme, the members will describe a theme that they want for the booth. No matter what the people say, I always listen and try to understand their vision. If I can not figure out what they are envisioning, then I ask for clarification. There are usually different ideas from everyone but I can not choose any favorites. It doesn't matter if I agree with an idea when they present it,  I always still listen and encourage their ideas.&nbsp; I will continue to use these steps to make club decisions throughout my term as president. I think it makes me a better leader and it helps increase the confidence in everyone else in the club. Confidence in a person helps them achieve more and it makes them healthier.</div>]]></description>
