07/05 - In the morning we presented our research work that should include 3 videos and their analisys. I chosse two videos focused on reproducing sound waves and one with a ballet performance. The first two were nice because they were based on something called the Ruben’s Tube, that use flames as a manifestation of the sound waves. The ballet one was a classic type of performance, but it illustrated the rythm in a unic way.

In the afternoon, we started to build our instruments. Mine was based on what we call a Pan’s Flute, that is a few tubes in different sizes putted together. What i found interesting was the way i dealed with the prossed: Usually i would just go and start to experiment, but this time i did some sketches and a research on the tunes first. I took my time and it was worth it.

08/05 - Today we used the whole day to build our instrument. I found lots os challenges, specially because most Pan’s Flutes are made of wood (usually bamboo) and I wanted to use metal, so i bought a copper pipe and cut it in the necessary sizes, mesuring so it would not be out of tune. I was kind of upset with EBAC’s lack of structure for that project. Not only we needed tons of materials and structure we didnt had, but the safety mesures could improve a lot. For exemple, we needed protective gloves.

I chose that instrument because when i was a kid, i used to play with it a lot in my parents workplace. They work with instruments, but when i was little most of them were too heavy for me, so i spent my time playing that wooden flute.

09/05 - We did not had classes today, but i continued my work at home. The copper tubes were ready and I had to find a way to close onde of the sides and then put them together. I used multi-tacks and duct tape to seal the end of the tubes and more duct tape to bind them together. The final outcome was really nice and the metal gave a nice ring to it, not only on the appearance but in the sound as well.

10/05 - We began today by making a small performance with our groups to show our instruments. We were assigned to the groups on Day 2, but we did not worked effectively together until now. Still in the groups, we rehearsed and recorded a one minute song that we will edit and use to make a visial representation of the sound. I was a little disappointed because our visual representation could not be a illustration, like if we did an album cover or something like that. In the afternoon, i had to help a friend that was not felling well. She got hurt working on her instrument and she was really tired from the week so i did not wanted for her to go home by herself. I was not felling very well too. I dont know what i was felling, i guess a mixture of exhaustion and worrying about personal things.

11/05 - Today was kind of a “free” day for us to work on our projects. We started to use the Production Padlet, so the teatchers could know where we were. That is really helpfull, specially because we can indicate with colous if we need their help. In my group, me and Gaia are responsable for the Visual Score of the project, we had many ideias regarding how to represent our song through a stetic and we realised the best option was a steampunk style, so we are making a gif of a woman in that style moving in the musics rythm. In the begging it did not seem like the kind of project i would enjoy, but this got me exited about it, specially because i’ve worked with steampunk and it reminds me of references i enjoy, like the series “Westworld” and the 2015 version of the movie “Mad Max”

14/05 - I could not make it to class today. I was not feeling well, so i worked at home. I text my group to see what they needed and helped them to edit the sound and started the Visual Score with the definitive ideia. We are going to make a quick gif of an illustrated cactus, discarding the futurist steampunk esthetic, but keeping the “Old West” vibe. I was a little disappointed, it was important for me to use that esthetic, because it had a great influence om my development as an artist and illustrator, but that was a group decision, and i can use it in another assignment.

15/05 - My plan for today was to start to animate, but I left that to Igor and Gaia because we were missing the background. I really like the way it is turning out. Although I had thought of something more realistic, I like the cartoon theme it is taking form. As I intend to work with children someday, hopefully making books illustrations, it is good for me not only to have works like this in my portfolio, but also acquiring this experience. I’ll finish the background today and as I already have the character in colours, we can visualize better.

I really like this no studio days, because I can take my time to do what I have to do in a quite and confortable environment (my room). I love working in the studio, but it is nice to take a day when I can wake up late and do things in my rythm.
I enjoy my production of the day. I finished the animation background and I really like the result. The canyons and desert reminded me of cartoons I watched when I was a kid.

17/05 - Our goal today was to finish everything so we can start the day tomorrow with the crit. In the morning Michael told us about the new space upstairs, it will be nice to have actual organized storage space and a table for me to work when is too much distracting noise downstairs. It was really thoughtfull and it meant a lot to me. Sol showed us the video of a lecture made by a young woman who invent “usless machines”, I understood the purpose of showing us that, but she could have talked more about it and illustrated her point. It reminded me of a lecture we watched here at Ebac in the beginning of the year, that we were told that sometimes the intention and effort of doing something matters a lot more than the outcome itself.

18/05 - In the morning, half of the class had the crit from 10:00 to 11:30 and the other half had free time to work on reaserch or sketchbook. Between 11:30 and 12:30 we switched, but two groups could not recieve the crit so the first groups had an extra 30 minutes free time after lunch. I was from 11:30, all the lunch time and the extra 30 minutes (until 14:00) working on the next assignment reaserch, as I am really exited with this project. I said on my other reflection that I would use Steampunk in another assignment, as we gave up on using it on this project and it turns out it fits perfectly with the brief we are starting on monday. After the crits we had a lecture about how to assemble our portfolio. It was a very interesting class and it cleared out lots of doubts I had on how could I make it better. We also were informed that we will have an interview with the program leader of the B.A. we choose, and if we do well, we can already be offered a spot on the course. It would be better, specially because than I could be more calm and focus 100% on my final project, without having to worry with the end of the year interview.

How did I personally contribute to the success of my team? Why am I happy with my contribution?
When we separeted the tasks, Gaia and I were responsable for the Visual Score, so besides the instrument, I made the Canyon background we used and helped with the Visual Score and the Animation. I'm specially happy with my contribution because I used resourses I'm not familliar with, so I had to learn new things and works really hard to have a nice outcome on what I tried to do.

What feedback did the group receive and what can I learn from this feedback? How will I use this feedback to improve my future work?
In general, we had a good feedback on the work. The main issue was that our tasks were "too devided" so the Animation and the Grafic Score were a little visually disconected, specially because of the colors and style. Next time, I'll pay more attention in the whole work, not only in the parts I'm working with, so it can come togheter better and smother.

What assessment criteria can I evidence for the Part 2 assessment after this project?
After this project, I have a better underestading of how to integrate research, ideas and methods within the context of the chosen media and make the best use of appropriate progression opportunities through skill development.

I see now that the way I display and show my work can be as important as the work itself, speacially because in most cases when I'll apply to a job or another course, the porfolio and my works need to speak for itself. I'm now programing the works I'll use and in what format I'll display them in the pages, it's going to help me a lot to habe that figuered it out before even taking the pictures of the works.

05/06 - Today in the morning we went to do primary research on a place called Garoa Hacker Club. It was interesting, we learned a lot about working with a padron software. It would have been great to learn that for the sound and vision project, it would have given a great grafic score. In the afternoon, we had a exercise to learn abour odds and chances and I went to do it downstairs in the Pc lab, as I feel more comfortable with it. Although in the class I had Leopoldo’s approval to work there, apparently there was a communication problem and I could not have gone there.

06/06 - Today was a Studio Free day and I started to make my games project. It will be a questions and answers game, in which you need to give the correct answer to a question on pop culture to move on in the board. The chosen themes were Movies, Music, Animation, Series, Video Games, Books, HQs and Theater. I began doing the questions, there will be 10 for each theme, that is 80 in total. So far i’ve done five themes, or 50 questions.

Now, after class, i’m going to buy a box for the game and take the files to the graphic for printing. This project is really stressful, specially with the fair next weekend comming up, but i’m really enjoying it and it is making me develop an interesting set of skills.

25/06 - In this project my idea is to work with our first project “The Collector”. In the original project I collected songs and chose a few of them to illustrate but that is something I’m comfortable with, so this week I’m going to choose another song from the list and try to work it out as a sculpture.
I chose “The Song of the Caged Bird” by the American violinist Lindsey Stirling, wich is a big challenge, as the song have no lyrics for me to base myself in.
I spent my morning working on a research about the symbolism of cages and how is the feeling of being trapped, not only physically, focusing on the cages and traps we end up building inside ourselves. It ended up being a really personal research.
I decided to make a bird-girl trapped in a traditional cage, and although I spent all the afternoon experimenting and looking for the right materias and techniques, I ended up with nothing, im really worried about how is the production of this outcome is going to take place.

My project was to illustrate emptyness through an empty falling appart city, hard working with few resorses through an inventor with tools building something, desease and suffering through a doctor with toxics around and death amd technology through a skull with incorporated tech. The one I did on the original week was the lest one, so today I worked in the doctor illustration. It is almost ready and it pictures a doctor wearing a plague doctor’s mask from the middle age with a green smoke on the background. It is a mix of the old and new, with the steampunk estethic I wanted for this work.

Because my game was a "Questions and Answers" type of game, one of it´s most interesting aspects was not only the communication it had with the players, but also the interaction between the players themselves, making them begin conversations and answer questions on popular culture themes.
The received feedback was pretty good. The game was well thought through and had nice finishing touches. The only thing that could improve was that, because of the details, it would be too expensive to mass produce it, so it would be interesting to think of a way to make a cheaper production.
I´ve been trying to show evidences of the Part 2 required criteria through my projects, and I think in this one was demonstrated my abilities to identify and adapt appropriate methods and materials to develop ideas, demonstrate practical methods and skills for creative production, demonstrate approaches within a chosen art or design subject, use analytical skills to develop creative solutions and solve complex problems within a chosen art or design subject

In the beggining of this project, my idea was to go back to "The Collector" project, the first project of Part 1, because of the way it was executed. It was based on a collection of songs I did during the two given weeks: Every time I got in the car I selected random songs and wrote down the first one that started playing. In the end, I chose a few of those songs and analyzing a few aspects of it, specially the lyrics, I came up with an illustration and, although I really liked the result, the five outlined illustrations made me work too much inside my confort zone.
Going back to my list, I found a totally different song from the ones I used, called "Song of the Caged Bird", wich is an only violine song with no lyrics by na american violinist who´s name is "Lindsey Stiriling". With this song I wanted to work with a different method besides drawing, and decided it would be interesting to make a sculpture. My first idea for it was to make a puppet girl with feathers trapped in a cage beacause of the feeling the song gives me and, althought it can look a little clichê and literal, the idea behind it was to represent not only a physical cage, but someone trapped inside themselves, caged by their own feelings, ambitions and ego.
My idea was to plan and experiment with the structure in the first two days and work on the details for the next two. On monday we had the brief´s lecture with the tutors and worked on our Action Plan and in a short text explaning this project ideas, then I decided my idea and started to work on a few prototypes. On Tuesday I began making a research on the topic and an interesting collage on my sketchbook with a few visual references, quotes and the song´s notes. For the material, I decide to use a thick wire for the cage and a special sculpture clay for the girl. Right from the start I had problems: The cage needed to be on wire, or it would not give the sturdy effect I wanted, but I could not find a way to attach the wire, as glue does not work, a thiner wire did not look good and I don´t have the equipment to weld it.
On wednesday, I decided to change my project completely and work with "The End of the World" brief instead, as I was in the hospital during the original weeks assigned for it and could only do one of the four required illustrations. As the one I manage to finish was a hand drawing with pen outlining, I decide to use digital media for the others, what was a challenge beacause I had no experience with it. One of the most challeging parts of this project is that the illustrations need to tell a story about the end of the world by themselves. I choose a Steampunk esthetic, that mixes Vitorian Era elemnte with futuristic high technology, because I did not wanted to set a time period to the story, giving the impression that the future pictured there could happend anytime, and that esthetic is a resource often used to make the story look timeless in movies, comics, animations, etc.
In my story, the world ended because of a Biological Weapon, spreading diseases all over the earth, and people fight for the few reasorses left, in a place where a glass of clean water is as hard to get as high performance technology. The first image was supose to contextualize the viewer in the envirolment, showing a city in ruins with moss on the buildings and a sunset on the background to give the idea that nature is taking over. The second one is to show the actual problem, how did it come to that: The Sckness and, to portrait that, I used a Middle Age Doctor´s mask with a green fog on the background, trying to show contamination and how disease is still spreading. Because of the time limitation, I could not finish the third one, but it´s idea is to show and inventor building something, portraiting people trying to adapt to survive. The last one is the one I manage to finish in the original week and it shows a skull wit incorporated technology, as in the end, that destruction will lead to death.
In the end, I aimed to finish the illustrations and althought one is still missing I really liked the resoult, specially because comparing the one from the original week and the news ones, I improved a lot in composition and techniques.

The first weekwas really hard because I was working alone, but I managed to get the measures of the rooms and make a base with a starter research.
With the disign we planned, we intended not only to provide the kids with a calm and fun environment, but also to give them a sense of belonging. We used forms and themes to make a catalog from wich they will be able to choose their favorites, then we will use those to create an illustration in the room’s ceilings with colors that, according to our research, can, among other things, improves mental clarity and help in their physical and emotional development.
For our presentation we made a few exemples, besides a slide show and a maquette of one of the rooms.

15/06 - Today in the morning part we had the crit and some free time to work independently. I started working on my first portfolio page using my collector work. In the afternoon, in our portfolio preparation session, I programmed all my pages. The amount was from 10 - 20 pages, and I have 14, what i think is a good number. I was really happy that Michael liked my portfolio development.

15/06 - Today in the morning part we had the crit and some free time to work independently. The crit went beru well and the only negative comment I had was on how expensive it would be to mass product it, speacially because of the datails and finishing touches, but I was really happy that everyone got to see how hard I worked in this project and that I’m really trying my best. I started working on my first portfolio page using my collector work. In the afternoon, in our portfolio preparation session, I programmed all my pages. The amount was from 10 - 20 pages, and I have 14, what i think is a good number.
Surrounding Narratives

My first idea for this project was to work with photo editing, and I made a few in the beggining of the process, but I really liked one observation drawing we did in the first day of the project, so I dicided to use that and minimalist forms though sillhouettes, inspired by one of the most influetial artists of the 20th century, a sculptor named Tony Smith. I used the drawing and mixed it with london and sao paulo silhouettes. Initially, I was thinking of only using black and white, but I manage to experiment with colours, and that gave me a few nice outcomes.
The digital media worked really well for me because it allowed me to work with simple minimalists shapes and play with the work’s layers with my hand mae work.
The projects intention is to tell a narrative based on Ebac’s building as focus, so i took a characteristic element if it (the windows) and showed through it Ebac’s history: The conection between England and Brazil.
