Another option would be to host a school talent show and encourage students to perform something that shows their family's culture (Brieseth et al., 2015a). You could also host a class potluck and invite families to bring traditional dishes from their home country (Brieseth et al., 2015a).

Through these groups, you can learn how parents view their role in education, specific concerns or goals they have for their students, and in what ways they would like to engage.  For instance:

1. Do they want communication in a certain language? 
2. Would they like to volunteer, but are unsure how they can since they aren't fluent in English? 
3. Is there information about their culture or native country they would like to share in your classroom?

Dual Language Programs - Instruction is received in native language at least 50% of the time for the duration of the program ("Emergent Bilingual Information," n.d.).

Transitional Bilingual Programs - Instruction gradually shifts to English over the course of the program ("Emergent Bilingual Information," n.d.).

Some districts may use more than one model.
