They have helped reduce deforestation rates by about 75% and carbon emissions from deforestation by 56%.
However, they are set back by the offenders commuting the acts of deforestation. Money and land are at stake and some of them will do anything to protect them. It has gotten so serious that these rangers have to be armed and ready for retaliation.  Sometimes, they are simply too late on their arrival to help with anything.

They also had improved law enforcement.It is hard for government agencies to enforce wildlife law over a large area. The amount of forested areas is 5.5 million square kilometers, and even with satellites flying overhead, some people needs to be on the ground to enforce forestry laws. The Brazilian government got tough on illegal logging by handing out a series of high profile fines for violators by focusing their efforts on patrolling paths leading into the forests. This focus by law enforcement increased the efficiency of patrols over such a large area.

From the video, they said that after the rangers started using satellite monitoring to track down and where possible prevent forest clearance. With all their helicopters and high tech devices, they are able to slow down deforestation for more than 75% since 2004. This shows that by protecting forests with good tools and transportation can be effective as they can be able to reach the site of deforestation quickly to confiscate equipment, levy fines, cut access to bank loans and business markets in order to prevent the clearing of forests. Sometimes, the rangers would be too slow to reach the site of the affected area. People may also refuse to cooperate with the rangers causing difficulties for the rangers. A lot of money also need to be invested for this plan.

For example, the Zero Deforestation movement started because of many NGOs , environmentalists, indigenous people, just to name a few. Such a social movement is made possible due to public education. With the Zero Deforestation movement, there has been establishment of protected areas, investments into satellite monitoring, increased law enforcement and the cooperation between key industries. However, one might face the problem of having a small minority who disagrees. Those people are mostly the farmers, who would be "lacking" the space needed to grow cattle or soybeans. Instead of spending money to clear the Amazon, they can instead invest the money in technologies, which might possibly be even better than having more space. But it is easier said than done. What we need to do now is to educate the public so that they can stop using their produces. Back here in Singapore, we can help this movement by using only using sustainable products. All we have to do is pay more attention and look out for fair-trade and organic products, or products certified by the Rainforest Alliance, the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) , or the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). As such, we as consumers are able to impact, and hopefully end the deforestation.

People’s attitudes and practices towards rainforests also needs to be changed to prevent deforestation. That could be done with education. Teachers could teach the importance of conserving the Amazon Rainforest and the disadvantages of deforestation so as to let children have a better understanding of what is happening around the world and to be mindful about their own actions. Furthermore, it is always better to start early. There are various conservation groups campaign against deforestation in the Amazon by raising public awareness. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) produces publications which provide current information about the state of the rainforest which creates a awareness of the rich biodiversity in the rainforest and hopefully causes people to be more mindful about the way they use rainforest resources. Some ways to raise public awareness using education is by Ecotourism as it engages and educate people around the world about the rainforest. Ecotourism has activities like natural history study, bird watching, kayaking and photography. Exhibition can also be done as it showcases the biodiversity of the rainforest and raise awareness of management and conservation strategies. Although so much has been done to raise awareness using public education, it is still up to the public to decided whether they want to change their attitudes and practises towards rainforests. If they do not want to change their mindset, then the rate of deforestation will still continue to increase. Hopefully, the public education will educate more people to conserve the Amazon rainforest.

Additionally, the rangers also use helicopters and other good transportation vehicles to assist them in their missions.

It was heartening to learn that a  collaboration between the space agency and the environment ministry has helped to reduce carbon emission from deforestation by 56%.

The rangers went to places where deforestation had taken place.  It is a very good strategy that combines the monitoring system with the control system which complement each other to tackle deforestation in Brazil.
