"As I walk on I was lonely no longer. I was a guide, a pathfinder, an original settler. He had casually conferred on me the freedom of the neighborhood." 

“My own house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore, and it had been overlooked, so I had a view of the water, a partial view of my neighbor’s lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires.”  

"And I like large parties. They are so intimate. At small parties there isn't any privacy." 

"So I thought you ought to now something about me. I didn't want you to think I was just some nobody. You see, I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad thing that happened to me."   

I chose to gift Gatsby a journal so that he can write down all of the sad things that have happened to him in his past instead of just trying to hold all of his thoughts in.  

"Daisy's face was smeared with tears, and when I came in she jumped up and began wiping at it with her hand-kerchief before a mirror." 

"I look up from the ground to see your sad and teary eyes / you look away from me /
And I see there's something you're trying to hide /
And I reach for your hand but it's cold, you pull away again"


Gatsby can tell something is up with Daisy and she tries to hide the fact that she is crying by wiping her tears away. 

"Perhaps some unbelievable guest would arrive, a person infinitely rare and to be marvelled at, some authentically radiant young girl who with on fresh glance at Gatsby, one moment of magic encounter, would blot out those five years of unwavering devotion."  

"And now I'm picking her apart / Like cutting her down will make you miss my wretched heart"

Daisy doesn't want Gatsby to see another girl and then change his mind about how he feels about her within the past five years. 

"Daisy that's all over now," he said earnestly. "It doesn't matter any more. Just tell him the truth-that you never loved him-and it's all wiped out forever." 

"But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun / something in the orange tells me we're not done. "

Tom is telling Daisy to just confess the truth because he knows that him and Daisy have had feelings for each other for a long time.  Also, Gatsby thinks that Daisy will come back to him at some point. 

"I can't describe to you how surprised I was to find out I loved her, old sport. I even hoped for awhile that she'd throw me over, but she didn't because she was in love with me too. She thought I knew a lot because I knew different things from her. . . Well, there I was, 'way off my ambitions, getting deeper in love every minute, and all of a sudden I didn't care." 

And I, I want to share All my love with you / No one else will do / And your eyes, your eyes, your eyes / They tell me how much you care / Ooh, yes / You will always be / My endless love

This lyric shows how Gatsby would describe Daisy. It also can show the part on how Gatsby is deeply in love Daisy when it says "my endless love". 

"Now he's dead," I said after a moment. "You were his closest friend, so I know you'll want to come to his funeral this afternoon." 

"I'm still holding on to everything that's dead and gone / I don't wanna say goodbye 'cause this one means forever / Now you're in the stars and six feet's never felt so far / Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers / Oh, it hurts so hard for a million different reasons / You took the best of my heart and left the rest in pieces."

Nick is sad that Gatsby because one of his close friends. Also that no one that came to the parties or any of the events that Gatsby held, would even show up to his funeral. That his last hope would Gatsby's dad.
