Fusang had given up her son, and although it was hard, she thought she was giving him a better life than she could at the time. If one knows they cannot care for a child and have a baby coming, they should do what will be best for the child to grow up in a good environment where he will be successful.

“It was hard at first, but I just thought of it this way calling whoever took him would give him a better life than his own parents. Then it didn't Hurt to think of him, and once it didn't hurt, I forgot to think about him from time to time, and then I just forgot.” (Li 123).

It drives her to be money hungry and if she doesn’t get what she wants she will turn against Yiyan. Someone has to be very mentally unstable to think about stealing or starving or selling someone else’s child. So I worry about how the long term effect of giving up a child can damage someone’s brain and cause inhumane tendencies.
