With the typical system of "dig and dump" proving unbeneficial, Waterfront Toronto took to Bloom to analyse what improvements could be made to their traditional soil recycling system. "Dig and dump" is just what it sounds like: digging up the soil and dumping it somewhere else. This traditional soil removal technique would prove to harm the environment when Waterfront Toronto had to transform 800 hectors of land and move two million cubic meters of contaminated soil. Bloom analysed the possibility of creating a long-term soil recycling plant and a test project.

I believe that it is far more profitable for companies to invest in soil recycling in before they "dump" they soil. Rather than moving contaminated soil to another place it can be decontaminated and reused while being environmentally sustainable. Moving the ground resulting in it becoming further infected and more expensive to move and clean, later on, not to mention serving no purpose and harming the environment. Now, Waterfront Toronto promotes investing in soil recycling to other developer and construction managers working on waterfront projects. Over the course of 10 years, it is estimated that the soil recycling facility project will yield $65 million dollars in social and environmental profits, and reduce GHGs (greenhouse gasses )by 36 kg per tonne of purifying soil.
