My name is Carlota. I was born in Miami in 1986. My parents are Colombian and from the US. I don’t recognize myself under any ethnicity because I have lived in the US and Colombia. After experimenting with traditional gender roles both in the US and Colombia, I realized I was heterosexual. I decided to be a sailor after I joined the navy. I thought I would have a relationship with a man, but as a sailor I have many relationships throughout the world.

My name is Juan Mario and I was born in Simon Bolivar in Bogota. I'm 51 years old and I'm a computer engineer. I was born as a female but transitioned at 35 since I didn't have the chance to do it before. I was born into a very conservative family and they never accepted the way that I felt inside and outside. As I explored my identity I was lucky enough to find a support group that became my family. Being aromantic has put a recent strain on these relationships within the LGBTQI+ community, because while I seek deep connections with people I don't seek romantic relationships. Being a Latino, I feel like there are social pressures to combine romance with sexual intercourse, but this is simply not Part of my identity.

My name is Molly Morales, I was born in Puerto Rico. I moved to Bogota to study journalism at Javeriana. I have known I was pansexual since high school. Even though Puerto Rico was conservative. Colombia was worse I faced a lot of discrimination both because of my accent, but because people around me did not understand what pansexual is. So they didn’t understand me. I constantly have to explain myself and justify my actions.

Juan Felipe -

Hello, I am Juan Felipe, I am a 45 year old graphic designer. My family is from Cochabamba in Bolivia. I was born as a female and transitioned to male as an adult. I hid and denied my identity while I grew up in a very conservative culture. I struggled to connect with popular cultural constructs around identity and found difficulty finding safe people who understood me. I got married to a man, tomas, but realized after college this was not my truth. I transitioned at 32 after I moved away from bolivia. Because I am asexual, it was difficult for me to find myself growing up. I am fascinated by japanese culture and sushi making, and love adventurous travels. I live with my best friend in Carmel, California and my dog. We spend a lot of time at the beach.

When I was younger I was conflicted about being bisexual because I am Romani. There was not a safe space to express bisexuality when I was younger . Now, being 64, I am ready to begin authentically expressing myself and live my truth.
