"The girl On The Train" by Paula Hawkins has many themes throughout the whole book. The main theme would most likely be Betrayal. Betrayal is the act of being unfaithful and disloyal to one you love. There are many instances in this book that show betrayal. The first act of betrayal that's the most important is when tom cheats on his wife , Rachel. Tom is the type of person that thinks he can do whatever he wants when he wants to do it. Too starts to cheat on Rachel when Rachel has become depressed over many things; not being able to conceive, alcoholism, and having no trust. Rachel says "i read through his messages: there were dozens, hidden in a folder entitled 'Admin'. i discovered her name was Anna Boyd, and that my husband was in love with her." (Hawkins 30) , she had said this after he saw her ex-husband's email. Rachel had already had trust issues, and after seeing the email, she lost all of it. In the email tom said "I fell asleep thinking of you, i was dreaming of kissing you...Don't expect me to be sane, i can't be, not with you" (Hawkins 30), when Rachel read this email it completely broke her. Going along with what has happened so far with affairs, Betrayal is an important band major theme in my book.
I choose the picture of two people shaking hands and one holding a knife because betrayal was the main theme. The picture represents the one man about to betrayal his friend and stabbed him in the back. The picture goes along with the theme and the book.

Depression is a feeling of severe despondency and dejection. The main character, Rachel, is very depressed. Rachel says "i want to drag knives over my skin, just to feel something other than shame."(Hawkins 147), Rachel was implying to cut herself after she saw her ex-husband with his new wife, and the drama she brought on. Rachel had become depressed since her divorce with Tom. Rachel has been lacking sleep, drinking, lying, behavioral changes, and taking pills, which are all signs of depression. The main point in Rachel's life when she became depressed is when she couldn't conceive, and Tom didn't like that. Depression is a relevant issue in "The Girl On The Train" for the main charter, Rachel.
Another major issue that comes up in the book is alcoholism. Alcoholism is an addiction to the consumption of alcohol liquor. Rachel along with depression, is an alcoholic. Throughout the book so far, Rachel has said many times about her addict to alcohol and how it is getting worse everyday. In the beginning of the book, Rachel says "It's Friday, so I don't have to feel guilty about drinking on the train. TGIF. The fun starts here"(Hawkins 7), when she says this Rachel is easing her way into letting the readers know she's an alcoholic. When the story got more in depth, you realize Rachel doesn't just drink on Fridays, she drinks 24/7. When Rachel drinks, she drinks way too much and does things she doesn't know shes doing, she says "I lost and I drank and I drank and I lost."(Hawkins 119). Alcohol becomes a major issue just not for Rachel, but the people around her get effected too.

So far in my book I'm reading, I've learned to stay true to myself and to loves ones that love me. Betrayal and depression are such big parts in "The Girl on The Train" , and i would never want to betrayal someone like Tom did to Rachel. I've also learned to accept things in my ;life as they come, which I've never been good at. The quote "I have lost control over everything. Even the places in my head."(Hawkins 29), that Rachel said shows the importance of how one person needs to stay strong and overcome the differences and struggles in there life. The picture i choose of the girl standing up on the mountain shows how one person can overcome their struggles and complete anything.
