The relationship/dynamics between family members-Haley

The children refer to uncle Bill as Sir, and they treat him as a respected adult who has authority over them. They do not treat him with a lack of respect because he is just their uncle, they look at him as a father role, because their parents died and he is the only person they know to be a parent to them, and want them, niit just give them away.

Compared to children today these children show an abundance of respect to their elders/parents, address them by sir, or Mr.... or Mrs..... and they do not swear or use inappropriate language in front of them.

The kids however love uncle Bill and have created so many memories with him and when they were offered the choice of leaving to go and live in a bigger house, with their own rooms, a tree house and much more they chose to stay because of Uncle Bill and how much they loved him.

All of the kids are happy and enjoy spending time with their siblings, they do not argue much or miss treat them. External force of why: their parents death and knowing to appreciate each other and the time they have together and not taking it for granted.

The children show a great amount of respect for Mr Giles French the valet, they treat him with an abundance or respect, but they also enjoy joking and being goofy with him. He also is very responsible for them and their lives, however when he knows they are safe he as well enjoys joking and being a child again with them.

The children do not have a big relationship with Aunt Fran, however the small relationship they have for her, they treat her with lots of respect and address her as Mrs. When they spend time with her they are just girls, they do not see her as a parent who holds a big part in her life, but as a friend who they respect, but can have fun with and enjoy their company.

He also does not attend school. He is usual said or implied to be off playing with his pet octopus or blasting caps.

Uncle Fester - Is the uncle, he is often not seen in many of the episodes of this show. He is often implied to be playing around with blasting caps and lighting up light bulbs by placing them in his mouth.

Grand-mama Addams - Is the grandmother, similar to Uncle Fester she is often not seen in many episodes. She is often seen throwing darts, brewing potions of some sort, dabbling with fortune telling, or even occasionally cooking.

Lurch -Is the butler, he is often seen playing the harpsichord while the rest of the family are doing their own activity in the living room. To call for Lurch Morticia and/or Gomez pull a hangman's-noose bell pull to which Lurch appears and replies with "You rang?". Lurch is often asked to do many tasks which we may not necessarily see him do however it is implied that when we do not see Lurch he is doing tasks and chores around the house.

Thing - Is a longtime companion of Gomez Addams, the gender of Thing is unknown as it is just a disembodied hand. Thing is sort of like an assistant for minor tasks. Thing is seen appearing out of boxes places around the house, and often shows up to help with simple tasks such as collecting the mail, or picking up the phone receiver for one of the Addams.

When at school the kids are all dressed very professional. Girls are in dresses and nylons and boys wear pants and a button-down top. The kids tend to wear these clothes when they are at home, or playing at a friends house. The girls hair is curled and done up to look pretty everyday, they do not wear makeup, or if they do it is very minimal.

Compared to this generation where people tend to swear sweat pants and a baggy sweater to school or when they go to a friends house to “hang out”. This applies for both kids and teens. Kids tend to wear a fancy outfit sometimes to school, but it usually can consist of jeans and a t-shirt or girls may wear leggings and a top. Teens also can tend to show more skin now a days, compared to back then. There is a variety of ways teens wear makeup now and everyday it is different depending on a teens emotions and motivation. Some may wear none, minimal or lots. This is not that different from back then, now people just might wear more compared to what people wore back then. There is also a much larger variety of makeup now compared to back then.

Uncle Bill wears pants and a button down top everyday to work, when he get home, for dinner and on weekends. This is his typical outfit and may sometimes wear a jacket too depending on his event at work that day.

Mr Giles French wears a suit everyday to work and he sometimes wears a hat as well.

One major event that occurred was Buffy’s classmate/friend was severely ill and about to die. Buffy knew all to well about death, but it was still a very hard concept for this young child to deal with. She believed that her Uncle could cure her friend, but when he couldn't it was a tough realization. Unfortunately Buffy continued to spend time with Eva her friend until she passed and made her time on Earth a memorable one. Buffy was able to accept what happened and move on with her life.

Another big discussion was when the kids Aunt wanted to take them back. The kids were very intrigued, and wanted to know lots about what their life would be like in if they moved. However, we it came time to decide they chose their Uncle who loved them and never gave them up.

Finances was never a subject of discussion at the dinner table because Uncle Bill made an excellent wage and was able to provide for the children to have a great life.

As 'Cissy' grew up friendships and relationships started to become a topic, but this was not until later in the show.

Through out the show we see other characters get scared due to their strange monster-like appearance. Due to their appearance most of the conflicts that they face is because they aren't a "normal" looking family and it shows them running into problems with the "normal" families around them. This show only aired from 1964-1966.

3. Family dynamic then vs. today

The characters in this show are very family oriented and love to spend time with each other. This family has a lot of respect for one another and it shows through their actions. The atmosphere in their home or when they are together is very relaxed and shows how comfortable they are around each other, nothing is too fancy and it reminds me a lot of the modern family today, even though this show was from the 60's. Since this is a comedy, I feel like it showcases the fun and playful side of families without making it serious or too perfect compared to many families during that time. With their family coming from a poor lifestyle to being one of the richest, it shows how their personalities will never change no matter how much they have, which is the same to say with families in 2019.

4. Major conflicts the family faces

Education- Throughout the show it is evident that the family and others around them, make fun of Jethro's lack of intelligence and consider him to have the mind capacity of a "sixth-grader". This is a big issue for him during this show because it is harder for him to be taken seriously with people of a higher power (for instance Mr. Drysdale when Jethro wanted to rent an office to work in). He is mainly used around the house to help Granny with cleaning, instead of getting an education because his family believes that he will not last long.

Financial- The premise of the show starts with showing the financial crisis that the Clampett family used to be in, before Jed came upon the oil pond out in his yard that eventually made them very rich. This shows the family quickly going from a rags-to-riches scenario and involves the very issues and triumphs that come with success. Money was a big issue for the family, but this was resolved by Jed- making him the boss/ or the owner to everything the family has.

This family grows their own independence from the beginning of the show when Jed finds his own way of making money (which is when he found oil to sell). This generation is said to be also called the "latchkey kids" but this is false throughout this show because there is always someone in the house, and since they are so wealthy, none of the members have full time jobs or work to do.

Roles and Family Dynamics

Herman Munster - He is the only one in the family with a steady job as a Gravedigger, because of this he is considered the breadwinner of the family. He is a very loving husband and caring father to Eddie, he also tries to be a father figure to his niece Marilyn. He is a good-natured, childish, and naive character throughout the show. He is a very respected character by both Eddie and Marilyn; meanwhile with Lily he is a bit more passive and loving. When it comes to his relationship with Grandpa Munster he is a lot more respectable toward Grandpa while Grandpa criticizes him jokingly all the time. He is a very family oriented man and is always pushing for the family to spend time together by always having breakfast together or they will be sitting in the living room while Lily knits, he'll read the paper, Grandpa will be playing chess , and Eddie will either be reading in the fireplace or playing with some toys on the ground.

Lily Munster - She has tried multiple part-time jobs but they never seem to stick and she always goes back to being the housewife; cooking for the family and “cleaning” which consisted of vacuuming the house with the reverse on so that more dust would be put around the nine-bedroom and dungeon house. She treats Marilyn like her own daughter and is supportive in whatever Marilyn decides to pursue; she is also just as supportive and loving towards Eddie. She is has a very fiery temper and tends to be the disciplinary voice within the house usually scolding Herman for his occasional stupidity and selfishness, she also tend to get angry with her father due to his foolish actions and stubbornness. She is the voice of reason within the house and is often relied on to make all the problems right. Because of all these things she is the one who "wear the pants" in their household

Eddie Munster - He was an ordinary kid apart from being part werewolf with vampire tendencies. Eddie attended elementary school, aside from his pointed ears, and exaggerated widows peak, he is a normal kid. He looks up to his dad and grandpa a lot constantly helping them get into trouble from Lily but very rarely gets in trouble himself. He is also very close with Marilyn and feels like he can talk to her with some of his problems that he faces as a werewolf kid.

Marilyn Munster - She is the logical voice that helps Lily voice out her thoughts in a logical “girl” talk kind of way without having Lily come off as extreme or aggressive towards Herman and Grandpa Munster. She also tends to help her grandpa with his potions and weird magical experiments. She isn’t present often and is mostly there with a new boyfriend on her arm that usually gets scared off by hr ghoulish looking family.

Grandpa Munster - While Grandpa is generally considered the wisest member of the family, he is also extremely stubborn. He usually feels that he isn't getting enough respect, and he doesn’t shy away from letting everyone know it, and will often sulk or go to extreme lengths to demonstrate how offended he is by these actions. While generally a successful mad scientist and magician, his experiments tend to be completely absurd. Grandpa has an extremely sarcastic personality, and often insults his son-in-law Herman. Despite this, Grandpa and Herman are quite close and many episodes revolve around the crazy schemes Grandpa and Herman end up getting into, which Lily tends to scold them for later on.

But Lily does show that she has a hard time getting a job and even if she does find one it never seems to last long for her as if the jobs are in such demand that it makes no difference to let someone go because there will always be a replacement. Theres also no minorities in the show it's an all white cast.

I can relate to this family in some ways because my parents and I are very close, and my mom is also the boss of my house with a somewhat fiery temper. While my dad is a lot smarter than Herman he is still a family oriented guy who pushes for family time by getting us to always have dinner together at the table, like Herman does for breakfast. Also Eddie tend to take after his moms habits but his dads personality which I have also done within my family.

This family does differ to mine though because I have two older brothers and have never lived with a cousin or grandparent. Also my mother has always had a job as well they were usually part time but they would stick for a long time and my mom would never quit looking and just sit around to be a housewife.

How does this t.v. program reflect the cohort that it represents?

Since The Flintstones were made in 1960-1966, that makes them the generation x cohort

In most ways, The Flintstones didn’t reflect their cohort generation

The Flintstones did not have difficulties with getting a stable career because Fred was always seen going to work

The family didn’t have a “look out for number one mentality” except Fred who was pretty competitive when it comes to certain activities or work as he always wants to be and do the best he can

The parents and siblings were not as evident in the show resulting in no competition with older family members

But I found that in some ways, they represent the qualities of a typical woman in the early 1960’s. More specifically, Wilma is a young housewife who is married and who a child while also staying at home to take care of the family and the household. Also, Fred and Wilma represent the typical couple by being a stay at home wife and by being a working father.

The similarities and differences between your family dynamics and those of the t.v. family.

When comparing my family dynamics and those of the The Flintstones, there are more differences than similarities. Some similarities include my parents being married and having children just like Fred and Wilma and my mom wearing dresses and jewelry just like Wilma. But, some differences include having a working mother who is in charge of household chores while also working hard as a full time PSW, my dad who “wears the pants” in the family rather than my mom, my mom and dad share who same goofy attitude which can lead to certain downfalls, but they both have the ability to find solutions rather than just resorting to the “more intelligent” parent, the kids (my sister and I) who help out around the house and the fashion is only similar to Fred and Wilma on special occasions.

The Flintstones is a cartoon show which aired on September 30, 1960 and lasted until April 1, 1966. It is about a typical family of 5 (if you include the pets) in the stone age era who represent aspects of a family in the 1960's.
