The less harmful goals are their goals regarding trade and gaining new natural resources from other nations like Africa and Asia. The execution of this goal was mostly harmless as well. The European's other goals, such as brining their culture to other countries, as well as influencing their ideas could be seen as harmless and even helpful to both Europe and the other nations. However, the execution of these goals was arguably very harmful. The goals were not only done by conquering and colonizing, but by other methods as well. Education was one of these methods and while it does seem mostly harmless, ideas such Social Darwinism and White Man's Burden were born and put into action. This resulted in many of the people in Africa and Asia being Christianized, highly most likely against their wills. Another way that the author made this case for German Nationalism was by comparing it to England. This was done by listing and illustrating ways that England has been benefited by colonizing, as well as how the English were able to successfully do it. With enough people having nationalism and believing their country is the best, the country's power and influence can expand. Many past events (and even present) can support this statement, as well as the many dangers of conquering, terrorizing, and colonizing for nationalism. One of these horribly dangerous events that nationalism had a huge amount of relevance in causing was the Holocaust. Germany's new profound nationalism that Adolf Hitler influenced was a factor in why Germans believed themselves as much more superior to Jews and other minorities in Europe at the time. The European countries ended up taking control of those as well, which soon began to anger the Chinese, as it was seen as a forge in invasion. Soon, Chinese violet mobs formed with the objective to try to forge any foreigners from China. They were called "The Righteous Harmony Fists" but were more commonly known as "The Boxers". The Boxers looted and killed any European or Christian people or cities that they could. However, eventually Britain, Germany, Russia, and the United States formed an alliance and managed to stop the Boxers. The Europeans's reasons for doing all of this aren't all that justifiable either and were arguably not worth giving the natives of the places they invaded all of that trouble. To begin with, their political reasons were driven by intense nationalism and a thirst for more power than anyone else. As power was gained by expanding culture, imperialism seemed like an effect way to do it. It really was since it did end up giving European countries like Britain a lot more power then it initially had. There are feasibly no real issues with countries spreading their culture and influence, however when it is just to replace their own culture then it can potentially be an issue, as well as if it were forced, which was what Europe did when "influencing" their culture to Asian and African areas. Europe's economic goals caused many problems as well. The Spheres of Influence is just one example of this. Europe's interest in gaining more money through China's natural recourses and valuable ports caused numerous issues such as being seen as a foreign invasion (which it arguably was) to the Chinese. Europe took over their ports and took most of the profit as well, which was defiantly unwanted among all of the Chinese. This then lead to the Boxers forming, which was troublesome and violent for everyone. Europe's social goals are a huge portion of the reason why the Age of Imperialism has and deserves such a horrible rap. The Europeans had no real need to downright force the Africans to get Christianized against their wills, as it wouldn't effect whether or not their political or social goals would be achieved either way, yet they still did. Ideas such as Social Darwinism and White Man's Burden became popular and extremely executed into action. It is within a human being's natural right to be able to have religious freedom, as well as to be able to decide the way they would like to live. Europe clearly paid no mind to that, as the Europeans evidently saw the people of Africa as savages and not even human beings. In conclusion many innocent people in Africa and Asia needlessly suffered due to the way Europe applied imperialism on them.
