John Quincy Adams was born July 11th 1767 in Braintree Massachusetts. John grew up during the American Revolution. At this time his patriot father was a delegate at the Continental Congress. While his father was away his mother gave him his education. After the war John accompanied his father to Europe and again in 1780. While in Paris he studied at a private school while also attending the university of Leiden in 1780. Then John started studying at the European universities. Later John returned to Massachusetts 1785 and got into Harvard university. After John graduated college John studied and practiced law in Boston. Then he became a lawyer defending the neutrality policy of George Washington's presidential administration regarding the war between France and Britain in 1793. Then in 1794 Washington made him a U.S. minster to the Netherlands.Soon John's father made him minster of Germany. Before leaving for Berlin John married Louisa unfortunately the couple suffered the loss of three children. After his return home John was elected a Massachusetts state senate where he served from 1803 -1808.Since he was senator john supported some of the Republican measures such as Thomas Jefferson's embargo act and the Louisiana purchase.John was the only federalist in both houses that supported the Louisiana purchase. This made him unpopular especially to the Federalist's. The Massachusetts legislator called a special session in 1807 because they wanted to remove John a year earlier before his term ended. After that he resigned and changed parties and became a Democrat. Then John became a professor at Harvard University. He taught rhetoric oratory. He taught there from 1085-1809.After losing his seat in senate he was appointed by the new president James Madison. He was appointed as the new U.S.minster to Russia.Later he was sent to English court filling the position his father once held.Once he finally came home he became sectary of state under Madison.Once the presidential elections rolled around he ran for four positions and won the roll of president!John was not a political player he was very independent and this personality made him unpopular. Witch gave Andrew Jackson the lead in the 1828 election. Not very surprising that Jackson won but John got second which made him vice president. On February 21st John suffered a massive stroke and died two days later. He died on February 23.The nation lived in sorrow while looking at the most intelligent man to have ever had stepped in the white house.
