She developed a wide range of positive working relationships between CSI and the Staten Island community, overseeing several projects designed to enhance equity, in general, and access to services, in particular, as well as an enhanced sense of belonging for people with disabilities. Her emphasis was on the intersection of disability status and race/ethnicity. She did all of this while also serving as Director of the BSSW program, another large and important role. Dr. Humphreys was instrumental in significantly increasing the size and diversity of our undergraduate program and enhancing the BSSW and MSW curricula. She developed and oversaw the macro track in the MSW program and mentored many students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as teaching at both academic levels. Among her many accomplishments was development and oversight of the Community Service-Learning program in which BSSW students participate in the spring of their junior year. Dr. Humphreys was an active and supportive colleague to social work faculty and staff. If it is hard in any way leaving here or when you want to take it all in every moment you go through, I know how much you say all you need to do is “just breathe”. I hope you never lose your flair and compassion! 🥰

One thing that has always stuck out with you as a professor is how I never seen someone go so far as you do to help others and to teach. You would literally meet anytime, through text or video chat, and would create multiple ways to nurture learning for everyone. And you do it all with love and being genuinely caring. We definitely need more people like you to bring back faith in humanity and what better way to do it than teaching!

I can’t express how much you meant to have you for such a short time and I only hope you feel happy in everything you do!
