Males make a loud call to attract mates. This enables the tiny frogs to find each other in the giant forest. Females lay dozens of eggs on leaves, few of which will survive. After the eggs hatch, the males carry the tadpoles to water where they are left to develop. This makes frogs type three survivorship organisms.

Poison dart frogs are diurnal organisms. Poison dart frogs have sticky pads on their feet, which allows them to climb the tall jungle trees. They are brightly colored to warn predators that they are poisonous and shouldn't be eaten. In the presence of predators or sensing danger, the poison dart frog will become very hot and toxic slime will appear on its surface. The poison in the frogs can paralyze and even kill predators. They usually grow to only be 1 to 2 inches long.

Survivorship is the chance that an organism will survive to a certain age. Poison dart frogs usually live to 5-6 years. Poison dart frogs rely heavily on their environment for shelter and food. Deforestation of the posion dart frogs have caused a decrease in their population numbers. Posion dart frogs display a Type 3 survivorship curve meaning that there produce a lot of offspring but few survive. Frogs combat this by producing dozens of eggs at a time.
