Concept being addressed: Reprimands

Jessica found in the book the terms: 
response cost: Something is getting taken away
Isolation: Separating them from the group - time-out
Reprimands: quick response "Brynn stop talking" p.270-271
Brittney shared that her teacher has clothes pins at the front of the classroom that gets moved down if a student is misbehaving and if their stick gets moved then they must stay in for a few minutes of recess. She also shared that her teachers uses firm reprimands. 
Jessica shared that she observed her teacher using quick reprimands.
Brynn shared that her teacher has a lot of respect for them class so he only had to use simple and positive reprimands. She also observed a sub writing her name on the board and if the students misbehaved a little would be erased which would result in a reprimand.

Our group prefers rewards over reprimands because it gives students a specific standard that they are being held to as far as behavior. Routines are essential to a smooth and organized classroom. Students benefit because they know what they are supposed to be doing at various times, and routines are stuck in their head. Students with fixed mindsets should be given extra attention ignorer for them to have a growth mindset. Jessica shared from the book that rewards are the 5 types of motivation p. 446-447
Erin shared that her teacher does a rewards system called "Moran Dollars" They start with a given amount and if they misbehave, they put money in the "bank" and can earn more based on their actions. At the end of the week they can buy things from the "class store". 
Jessica shared that her teacher has a point based system that starts at 100 and throughout the day students lose points if they misbehave. At the end of the day if the student has higher than an 80 they receive a stamp on a paper on their desk.
Brynn shared that her teacher allowed for them to eat cupcakes for a students birthday if they did their homework

Jessica shared from the book routines, rules, and procedures p. 494
Jessica shared that her teacher will count starting at 10 and the class respond with 9 and counting down from there. Or teacher will say "bring it" and class will respond with "back"
Erin shared that her teacher has a 4 step process for leaving the classroom and if they don't follow the steps correctly, they have to go back to the previous step.
Brynn shared that when they had a sub today, they didn't like being out of their normal routine. They tried to correct the sub on what was "normal" for their classroom.
Brittney shared that her teacher rings a bell when time is done for working on something they will put their things away and pay attention to what she has to say.

Chapter 11
Brittney shared that a student that she was working with got very frustrated with math and he started saying things such as "I can't do this" and so she had to walk him through it step by step so that he would understand. She also shared about how one student wanted to solve a problem his way and his way only. 
Brynn said she hasn't experienced this much but the teacher does have a bulletin board in the classroom about growth vs. fixed mindsets with definitions and examples of how students should act int their classroom.
Jessica shared that in class they were learning word fractions. One students didn't understand, but she was able to work him through his problem but he didn't seem to be too motivated to want to learn it.
Erin found that maybe students do understand, but they may just be bored and maybe not challenged enough to have fun with it. She found this in her classroom.

Brittney shared how her teacher was sitting in the corner of the classroom and from across the room told a student "Don't you dare touch that" right before the student grabbed something off the shelf. 
Jessica saw that on Monday when students were here for the play, the teacher moved students around in line so that students wouldn't be messing around while watching the play.
