The Facilitator

Miss Meera Rampersad was our facilitator for this ICT training. She maintained a professional relationship with all and I would consider her personality a colourful one. This worked for us all as in Term 3, at the end of the academic year, there's a weariness that overtakes a teacher. The fact that she was passionate about what she was teaching and that she tried to use examples to relate to us language teachers really helped. Her sense of humour kept us awake on those days that we were tired.
Miss Rampersad used some of the tools that she was teaching us. That kind of applied learning was appreciated by me. She created a class with us on Edmodo where she created weekly folders with the course content. Moreover she provided a manual for each of us that was quite helpful as we maneuvered our way through this training.

A lot was covered by this training for a seven-week period. There was a lot of useful information, however on some days, I wish there was more practice in the session itself. As a foreign language teacher, I can't say that all can be used at my government school, but I now have more options with which to play around and keep my students engaged.
I do think all that was covered was useful and I did enjoy it, as tired as I was on some days.
I enjoyed learning about Moxtra, Padlet and Edmodo, to name a few. I did learn that there are many sites one can use to make quizzes fun and especially in this era of gaming, it's good to know I can make a game out of what is taught in the classroom
I am appreciative of the Ministry of Education training us for the classroom.

The Host School

This ICT training took place at Fatima College. Most of our sessions were in the ICT laboratory. One session took place in a Form 5 classroom, so we could access the whiteboard.
The host school was very accommodating to us. If needed, there was a cafeteria that did a daily lunch. The bathrooms were easily accessible as well. From time to time the Vice Principal would visit to ensure that all was well.
What was interesting to note is that, even though Fatima College is one of the better equipped schools in our district, even they too had issues with internet. Most days the internet was slow and connectivity dropped a few times during the course of a session. One day, we had no internet due to technical difficulties on their side. There was a day that internet was not available initially due to it being switched off by FLOW for a certain exam the previous day. However when FLOW was informed in the morning of that day of our workshop, internet was reconnected quite quickly. I have my doubts if this service would have reconnected internet so speedily for a government school though.
Overall, we enjoyed the hospitality provided by students and staff of Fatima College.

Last but not least, I am appreciative of the group of teachers that I shared this training. It was actually comforting to know that many of our schools do share similar issues when it came to access to internet and resources to implement ICT in our classrooms. We did learn from each other and I do believe, we grew together through this workshop
