I personally think that we should just cause it’s OUR phone, not the schools. And since it’s >OURS< we get to have them wherever we want.

I think students do have the right to carry a cell phone during school hours. If it is causing a distraction though, I think teachers should be able to take it.

I think students should have the right to carry their phone during the school day because it is theirs and not the schools, so we should be able to have it whenever we want.

Yes because it is our phone and no one elses. Many kids want their phone not as a distraction but a way to help you with differnt things.

Becuase what if there’s an emergency at home and your parents are trying to contact you? It’s our phone not the schools, and if they accidently break our phone by dropping it, it’s their responsibility to get it fix. The only time teachers can take it is when it’s a distraction not when it’s on the table or in the owners hand. If the owner is using it for education I think it shouldn’t be taken away.

I think it is our right to carry it at school, maybe not to have it out at school, but definitely to carry it. Considering it is ours and we bought it for ourselves we should have the right to have it.

It’s our own responsibility and we can do whatever we want with it. I think we have the right to have our phones with us as long as it’s not a distraction. Like we could use it to listen to music, because some students have more focus. Some teachers are really strict about even having a phone lying down on the table and I don’t think it’s fair to take someone’s belongings if they weren’t using it.

All though it is your phone, it is in the school. The schools got rules. And you have your phone, but it’s a privilege to have it NOT a right. Your parents can ground you from your phone, take it away from you too.

Because students retain their constitutional rights in school, (according to classroom.synonym.com) “The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits the searching powers of the government and protects the privacy of citizens. Similarly, the Fifth Amendment protects students from being held or questioned about their belongings or activities without being informed of the charges or given a chance to tell their side of the story.....In any case, schools must present reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing before searching or confiscating any student property.” So, teachers technically can’t take away your phone for just having it sit on the desk.
