It would be meaningful to go on an Empathy Walk early in the morning in the slums of the Philippines (that are safe). Because it will make us realize how much work the people in that type of society do but still they do not get enough money for the basic needs of their families. I have done an empathy walk near the slums of Pasig. There I saw how early the people wake up in order to work and I also realized their point of view how hopeless yet realistic they are. Upon seeing that and taking it into account what that must have felt for them is just heart breaking to say the least. What I thought exactly at that moment was how much despair they go through everyday knowing that there is only a small chance for them to have a better situation.

A few places come to mind where I could take a meaningful Empathy Walk but I think the best place would be by areas by the different rivers. The rivers in Metro Manila are incredibly dirty and you could only imagine having to live next to such filth to realize just how bad they've got it. These people don't deserve to live in such bad conditions yet they do and it's pretty hard to get our of them since majority of the people here are in poverty. At the end of the day, they're still people and they deserve a much nicer living space. I have never gone on an Empathy Walk within the country but I wouldn't mind passing by the river just to see these people's daily lives. When I went to Vietnam, I can still recall the poor neighborhoods we passed by while on the way to our hotel. We managed to get booked in a decent hotel but along the way, there were a lot of poor areas and I could see people cuddling for warmth in a blanket near the sidewalk. There was even a few houses full of graffiti and people were sleeping around it. It made me kind of upset knowing that I'm on vacation there and having a great time yet there are still people out there who still suffer from a cold night.

Yes, it would most definitely be meaningful to go on an Empathy Walk. There are many places that come to my mind where I would go and take an empathy walk. An empathy walk is a symbolism for opening one's eyes to the world. For me, I would take an empathy walk in the rural areas of my city. I would see the lives my fellow citizens are living. People are in small homes, eating one meal a day, going through the trash, and suffering. I get to see the reality of this world and that would strike me straight to my heart. Though I haven't gone on an empathy walk, I am sure to myself I would learn many things about my city that needs change. With the help of YPA, my fellow peacebuilders, and me growing as a peacebuilder we are able to be the catalyst of change needed in our society.

I would like to do an empathy walk to the schools in rural areas, where students have to walk number of hours for them to reach their school and study. Which actually a problem in every community, where services is really a problem in these areas.

I definitely think it would be meaningful to go an an Empathy Walk in less developed communities. As much as I would not want to put it as such, that is just the sad truth. As someone who lives a generally comfortable life, it is important that I am able to understand and feel the different things they may struggle with. Only then can I get a bigger picture of my country's situation and incorporate a larger demographic when thinking about things.

Actually it would be meaningful to go on an Empathy walk to anyone because anyone faces different issues and everyone has their own story to tell. I never tried something like the Empathy Walk in another community, city, or country although I could say since I have discovered this method, it is helpful to everyone of us as a tool to establish peace. I guess we can all learn that going in an Empathy Walk changes an widens our perspectives and views on the world since we would hear different stories on different sides. I think that just by listening, we could be all inspired to go create peace even with the smallest kindest acts.

I believe that to help others and achieve true humility, one should first recognize their privilege. An empathy walk is a wonderful idea. It will serve as an eye-opener, exposing individuals to lifestyles different from their own. But, members should be reminded not to look down on the people of the community they are to visit.

A meaningful way to do an empathy walk is to go on a walk in the early mornings in a rural area, where we have to cross bridges and rivers for us to get to the common goal, a school. In this way, we can open our eyes into the world of the less fortunate, a world that needs so much help and attention.
