he was selected in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft (which allows American football clubs to recruit college players to become professional players).
He played 6 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, becoming a starter in the 2012 season after alex smith's injury and becoming a professional player in the process. 
During the 2016 season Colin Kaepernick became the centre of media attention when he knelt during the US national anthem(he was the first), he was protesting racial inequality in the US and police violence also in the US.
