2) What is the difference between a theocracy, plutocracy, democracy & an autocracy? How does it relate to this unit?

Theocracy is ruled by a priest under the name of God. Plutocracy is ruled by the wealthiest in the community. Democracy is ruled by everyone but has an elected official. Autocracy is ruled by one single person. In relation to period 6, the government form of Plutocracy is similar to the monopolies formed during the 20th century, especially major business men such as Carnegie and Rockefeller.

Group 7 - What was Carnegie's perspective in his book, 'The Gospel of Wealth'? Why would someone who advocated for philanthropy still draw criticism from union leaders and other proponents of socialism?

Group 3) Samuel Gompers (the AFL), blacks & women (what's the correlation?) How did the Knights of Labor differ?

The AFL and the Knights of Labor were two organizations that fought for more workers rights, higher wages, and lower work hours. The Knights of Labor, however, differed because they accepted more people of different races and backgrounds as opposed to the AFL, who preferred skilled workers only. Samuel Gompers refused to affiliate/associate with the Knights of Labor.

1) Carnegie made most of his money in steal, Vanderbilt made his money in railroads and shipping, Rockefeller made his money in oil. A monopoly is a business that have a sole control over an industry. Vertical integration is when one company owns multiple of the ways to create a product. Horizontal integration is a consolidation of many firms that handle the means to what part of the production process.

These correlate with each other by their affiliation with labor unions or a push on rights of workers. Grover Cleveland was the president during this time and he was the one who made labor day a national holiday to commemorate the American labor movement and all of the contributions the workers made for the well-being of the country.
