"For now I am bent to know by the worst means, the worst; for mine own good, all causes shall give way."

The line illustrates his desire for another meeting with the weïrd sisters to continue his pursuit for more power. The usage of diction in the word "bent" implies a negative connotation, alluding to his disfigured and warped state of mind. Macbeth is no longer thinking straight, rather his intentions have become 'bent', deviating further from moral code. Repetition of the phrase "the worst" is also utilized for emphasis on his malicious intent.

The metaphor of "wading" through a body of water, or a river, suggests that he is in the middle of a river, as it would be easier to cross than to go back. Motif of blood / liquids, metaphor, visual imagery

Nature represents the chain of being and Macbeth's actions highlight the unnatural manner in which he ascended the throne. Sleep represents rejuvenation and peace, a time in which one is able to rest their mind. Macbeth's hands are stained with the blood of his King and his mind cannot rest with this guilt. Later we realize the irony of this statement in Act 4 as Lady Macbeth is unable to sleep without light.

"Come, we'll to sleep. My strange and self-abuse is the initiate fear that wants hard use; we are yet but young in deed"

- Sleep motif
- Guilt theme

These lines show that Macbeth is fully aware about the immorality of his actions but expects that he will become adjusted to his guilt after time passes. Macbeth has developed from a loyal solider who was not comfortable with the idea of regicide, into a murderer who has accepted his damnation.
This also implies that Macbeth is expecting to commit more murderous acts, foreshadowing the slaughter of Lady Macduff and her son.
