Introduction

During the experiment we conducted, we tested to see if different genres of music affected our cockroaches, and whether they were attracted it them or not. We got the idea by our own selves listening to music and reacting differently to different types. We liked more bass heavy songs than rather soft melodic songs and rain forest noises. We figured that since we, as humans, have different responses to humans, the cockroaches would too.

To begin, determine what types of music you want to play for the cockroaches. We decided to play a lullaby, heavy metal, and nature sounds, such as the natural habitat for the cockroaches. Then, determine what gender of cockroaches you have. We tested each gender separately, so first we set the male out on the table with nothing around and no boundaries, took the phone case off of the phone we used. Then we turned the music all the way up and sat the phone on the corner of the table. We videoed each cockroach while each genre of music was playing so we could go back and look at their behavior to each genre of music. From the videos, you can get a conclusion based on the behavior of each cockroach to the music.

In conclusion, playing different genres of music will not influence the cockroaches a great deal, we found that when we played the preferred music of the cockroach that made them move toward the phone, just made their antennas move more than the other genres. We thought that the cockroaches would like the lullaby considering it was soft music, and the cockroaches are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day. We thought that the music was going to affect the cockroaches.
