Parents

We are writing to our parents and it is more casual, probably over text message.

The relationship between our parents is very close, so we would use comfortable language while also staying respectful.

I want my parents to approve of what I say, while also trusting me to make my own decisions.

We would write a long paragraph explaining how we met, who he is, and why they should approve. This way they will be more open to approving them.

We are writing this to gain our parents support and approval for our new relationship.

Friends

We are writing to our friends. It's more of a simple conversation, less of looking for approval and more honest and exciting conversation, not serious. Probably done over text.

We are very close and more personal. Being less formal in message and using more “slang” language.

I just want support from my friends, being excited and accepting the actions that I a, taking.

My writing format towards my friend would be less formal and more personal, it would most likely be very detailed and full of slang words.

Instructor

We are writing to tell our instructor that we are in a relationship, probably in an email. The reason would most likely be because we forgot to do an assignment due to our relationship or just simply trying to share more with our professor.

The relationship is professional and more formal language would need to be used. Minimal slang words and just the facts on a very surface level because we are not that close to our professor

Want the professor to understand that your personal life got in the way of your educational life.

The writing format towards our professor would be very professional, so it would not include all the details and stay very brief to be respectful.

I would write it to allow my professor to get to know me better as a student and increase his understanding that I have a life outside of his class.

We all agreed that keeping it professional is important in emails and to higher ups.

Working as a line cook in a restaurant taught me how to communicate with coworkers both above and below me, and understand every different employee differently and what sort of mannerisms, and bahvior are appropriate for each individual. Our main form of communication was through a third-party application that handled scheduling as well as private messaging with employees and managers. An instance where i communicated poorly, was when i completely forgot about a family trip that had been previously planned for months, this put me in an awkward situation where i had to admit my fault and immaturity to my boss and figure out a solution.

I worked as an after school care teacher to elementary school students. Making sure my tone was professional to my manager and my supervisors was very important especially when I was suggesting ideas that I knew were going to be a little bit more work than normal. Making sure that we were helping the kids grow and learn how to behave in school and in life was a big part of what I tried to help them do at my job. For communication, we had a groupchat on iMessages and we would text updates. It was important to usse proper grammar and make sure that our spelling was correct because we wanted to sound knowledgeable and make it seem like we knew what we were doing.

I worked for a cheer brand as a cheer instructor teaching high school students material and how to stunt/cheer safely while also doing harder skills. So when I am talking with my co-workers it's less formal and more fun, you can use whatever language you want. But when communicating with my boss it is usually over email but in my email I am definitely more formal with my language. And when I am communicating with HS coaches I am professional and formal but when communicating with the kids it's more fun but still professional.

I worked as a cheer coach and how I communicated to the athletes verses the parents and my boss was very different. With the athletes, I would use my “princess” voice while with the parents and boss i would have to communicate efficiently and explain more in depth how they were doing as a whole.

I work currently at Topgolf, where I'm a shift lead, I'm the person my coworkers go to when there is an issue and I handle hard conversations with guests who may not have the best experience. I also am the one who delegates tasks during the shift and I'm in charge of my cash drawer. There's a lot of responsibilities, meaning I have to be really professional when talking to my managers and coworkers.

I worked as a coach for children in sports camps over the past few summers. There is a noticeable difference between the tone used when talking to children compared to when I’m talking to my boss. For example, I use an authoritative tone when talking to the kids because it is my job to get them to listen and do what I say. While talking to my boss I use a very professional tone, only using email to communicate.
