Celeste Ng’s neighborhood influenced her writing a lot. When she was ten years old she moved to Ohio in a neighborhood called Shaker Heights. Her parents chose Shaker Heights because it was a racially integrated, progressive, and had an excellent public school system. She lived in Shaker Heights from 1990 until she graduated from Shaker heights High School in 1998 (Bolam 2-4).

Celeste Ng’s parents moved a lot. They were immigrants from Hong Kong. Her parents were both scientist.When her dad got offered a job at NASA they moved to Ohio. With both of her parents being scientists Celeste was always curious and asked a lot of questions. They helped her in many ways so she would have a better life than them (Bolam 1).

Little fires everywhere tv show

Poverty

During covid nineteen there was a lot of poverty problems. In 2019 covid left more than 43.8 million people in poverty. During covid there was a lot of reports of discrimination towards asians. There was a lot of reports by asians afraid they were going to be threatened or physically attacked. They changed there daily routines due the the crisis(department of health 35-37).

Racism

When Ng was teen she would write about race and discrimination. Her work usually is about racial identity and immigrants experience. At school, she participated in the organization of the Student Group on Race Relations. In that organization they participated by going to different elementary school to talk about discrimination and stereotype. In example of this Little Fires Everywhere her main characters are minorities struggling to live in a racially segregated neighborhood (Bolam 5).

In 2014 the New York Times named “Everything I Never Told You” it's Notable Book also it's New York Time best seller. The book is centered around a broken family and racism in a fictional town in Ohio. Along with several awards which the book has received, it is also being produced as a television series (Bolam 7-9).

With Little Fires Everywhere in 2017 the New York Times also named it a bestseller also over 25 publications named it a best book of the year. ¨ The Ohioana Library Association, an organization that celebrates Ohio authors, artists, and musicians, Honored Ng with its award in fiction in 2018¨ (Bolam 10-11).

Ng has already been writing short stories for years when she published her first novel in 2014. Her debut novel Everything i never told you quickly became a success. (Bolam 7-8).It garnered enthusiastic reviews and received multiple literary awards. After Amazon picked it as the best book of 2014, its popularity exploded.
