This was my first movie in Aice Media Studies and we made the storyline quickly. It is about a girl who found out her boyfriend cheated on her. Then her best friend got something to make her boyfriend sick. The girl gave the tampered drink to her boyfriend but didn't actually drink it. Instead his friend did.

Our group only had two major issues, we had a camera issue going down the stairs. We also had an issue with the coke bottle being in scenes before the vending machines.

Film Remake and Reflection

For this assignment, we were given another group's original work and told to remake it, add to it, or modify it in any other way. Some of the requirements included using 10 different camera motions or images that we had already studied previously. The character Dennis was the focus of the original storyline. One day when he left class, the doppelgänger pursued him. Then, when his identical twin discovered him in the bathroom, he awoke from his dream. We altered their movie so that the doppelgänger was being pursued rather than being pursued, and when they came face to face, our main character passed out. When she awoke in class, she discovered that her teacher was also her and that her dream was a reality. I acted in our original project before, so it was a similar experience, but it was also very different because I had to play two characters. In this movie, I played the main character and her doppelgänger. This was my first time editing, thus I was also the director of photography for this short film.

In our film, many thought it was a funny and enjoyable movie to watch from the editing style. We received some criticism on the bathroom scene because it went by fairly quickly and also a few sound issues because different sound effects and elements had different levels of noise in big measures. Over the shoulder, close-up, and establishing shots were the three different elements and or shots we had. Because I had to add two distinct overlays, the over the shoulder photo was the most difficult to put together. Many of the pictures were up close, including the main figure sleeping and the doppelganger unlocking the door. We didn't have an establishing shot when we first started, but I felt that we needed one to establish that we are in Gulf Coast.

Genre and Representation Reflection

For the past few weeks, we have been learning about different types of film genres. There was 14 in total; thriller, war, animation, comedy, musicals, mystery horror, superheroes, romance, sci-fi, sports, drama, adventure, and crime. We hyper-focused on learning about conventions and codes such as settings, iconography, camera work, and lighting that are specific to each genre. To go further and depth and to provide visuals we watched 3 film clips from 3 different eras in each individual genre. We also learned that many famous films were hybrid films.

We rewatched our two original films to determine their genres. We came to the conclusion that our first picture was a romance drama and our second was a horror comedy. Since the plot of our previous film was a little convoluted, we tried to make the characters and environment as straightforward as possible. We chose a school setting where a female is discovering about her boyfriend's actions and seeking retribution while still liking his best friend. We made the decision to use a lot of tracking shots and close-ups in order to emphasize the tension in the story. We anticipated that after first being a little perplexed, the audience would comprehend what was going on, feel the girlfriend's desire for vengeance, and be saddened when the wrong boy was slain. Because we added a feeling of suspense to our second movie, we think it qualifies as a horror comedy. We kept the plot relatively simple by using only "two" people, or one twice. To give the audience a sense of what was happening, we opted to use a lot of close-ups and medium shots. We also used a few point-of-view shots to make the scenes look more realistic. We used a few over-the-shoulder shots to give the impression that you are actually there, and we used a lot of sound effects to convey the sense of humor. In order to make this film that appears to be about terror feel more jovial and humorous, we opted to use sound effects and most of our shots. Strange foot noises when they walk and tense, high-intensity music when they run are a couple of these effects. Even though some of our editings wasn't done well, we still managed to make our movie seem terrifying, suspenseful, and amusing.

My favorite genres are romance, and comedy. But if I had to choose just one, I would choose the genre of comedy. For a final project, I would do a romance film. For a synopsis, two people both travel from opposite sides of the globe and accidentally meet in a restaurant abroad. They are both heartbroken from their most recent relationships but confide in each other. They both don't have a plan for their travels so they decide to travel the world together and fall in love. For cinematography, I would use lots of close-ups and montages to emphaize their feelings. High key and low-key lighting would be added, to show the emotional rollercoaster they both go on.

Editing and Sound -- Mid-Year Film

The class studied editing, sound, and screenwriting/screenplay format throughout November and December. We researched the fundamentals of film editing and produced materials with more than 20 different types of editing methods. We viewed a video on the use of color as well as the documentary "The Cutting Edge" on film editing. Every student took part in reading the "The Incredibles" screenplay and learning how to prepare screenplays using specialized software. This was useful for our midterm film project, where we each had to write a two-minute horror film opening about a person experiencing a nightmare.

We had to compose and film a one- to two-minute opener for the midterm film. They mostly used music and sound effects instead of much conversation. Wall-to-wall music or lengthy takes were not an option. A title/company logo, optional credits, and a straight cut or fade to the first image required to appear during the film's black opening titles. The actor and the nightmare had to be cut back and forth three times. A close-up, Dutch angle, high or low angle, silhouette or low-key lighting setup, pan, tilt, track/push, or spin-a- round, zoom or dolly zoom, a subliminal cut or multi-take, smash cut, match cut, J cut, or L cut, and the usage of slow or fast motion were also required. In addition, it required three sound effects, one incidental musical piece or sound motif repeated three times, one intentional instance of the use of color for story or emotion, one intentional instance of the use of costume, hair, or makeup, one intentional instance of the choice of visual complexity in setting. Quick cuts, montage, wide establishing shots, split screens, POV shots, reflection shots, deliberate breaking of the fourth wall, deliberate breaking of the rule of thirds, rack focus or pull focus shot, deliberate intentional use of handheld camera work, use of color filters to create a dream like quality, fisheye lens or fisheye effect, or a company logo with high quality graphic are all options for extra credit.

I used low key lighting and gloomy hues in my movie to comply to horror norms, codes, audience expectations, and involvement. For the look of being afraid, I had to film outside in the dark. Most people expect a jump scare and gore when watching a horror film. Instead I took a more meaningful perspective to it and tried representing suicided. Almost every single person who survives their attempt suicided regret in instantly. By having her dreams be different ways of dying my main character realizes that she regrets the decision subconsciously.

Successful parts of my film was acting and shots. My actor took the film seriously and we got a few cool clips. I could have had more angles and different shots. Less is more is a lesson I learned while creating my script. There is no need to include a ton of information in the script; most of it may be added while filming or even during editing. Once the screenplay is complete, shooting is considerably simpler because you have a plan and know how to complete the task as quickly as possible. I could relate to the need for individuals to scout out the ideal locations for movies because I once spent 30 minutes driving around my neighborhood in search of the greatest lighting for a street or a ditch. I became aware that it can be much simpler than it had to be as I was editing. Find another approach; it doesn't need to take hours and hours. Throughout this process, I had to learn to let go of my desire for perfection and accept that mistakes happen and that nothing is ever flawless the first time around.

Film Opening Analysis

Kidnap was the movie my group and I decided to watch. Old videos of the youngster as a baby acting joyful and playful are shown at the opening of the movie. The movie belongs to the thriller/drama category. The opening credits had a scroll-like appearance and were lighted by candles. The focus then shifts to Lotus Entertainment. The baby boy is first shown in close-up, and then there are several close-up shots. Either a medium closeup or a closeup is used in every picture. Many others are laughing, and the mother is using the typical baby voice. By the end of the two minutes, I was bored and had lost interest because all that had happened was a montage of the infant and there had been no actual action or hook. This film so far has a really gentle editing approach. The film did not represent any social groups unless babies count. I believe the movie was distributed in theatres and I think the reason is that no specific servers like Netflix or Disney+ did not make it themselves. Then when the movie has died down a little bit they can add more publicity by putting the movie on those streaming sites.

Kidnap, a film by Luis Prieto, is the one I'm basing this one on. I have some ideas for costumes and makeup, and I already know where I want to shoot a few scenes. I want the situation to be very peaceful and first seem regular, as though nothing unpleasant will happen.

I want a quick cut from our male lead exiting the bathroom to the cup on the floor.
Independent Distribution and Marketing Plan - Heart Stolen

1. I would approach a sales agent to try to get my movie into a cinema while trying to independently distribute it. My movie would probably do well in a cinema because its intended audience would absolutely love it. People in my target demographic are known for visiting theaters. I would also make an effort to enter more renowned ones, such as the European Film Market, the American Film Market, and Cannes Marche du Film. I would also try and upload into streaming websites. Although I could post for free on YouTube, I would prefer to use additional streaming services like Netflix or Hulu. Although I believe it would not be the best option, it would be the simplest and least expensive.

2. Bella Says Bye was our original title, but it fell short of our aspirations. This is due to the fact that we believed its name was unmarketable. It sounded like something that wasn't all that appealing. We changed it to "Heart Stolen" because the play on words complements the movie. Heart alludes to the romance portion of the film, while Stolen refers to the kidnapping. Here, the expression "Stolen Heart" is employed. However, it merely leaves the film open to greater mystery. It is simple to recall, which may promote word-of-mouth advertising.

3. "Who kidnapped Bella?" This phrase will heighten the intrigue and rumors that are going around. Because they won't know who did it, the audience will be on the edge of their seats.

4. Teenage girls make up the target market. They're a girl, between the ages of 12 and 17. As they are still in high school or junior high, their income isn't particularly high, and they primarily rely on their parents for financial support. They enjoy the typical teenage pastimes of sports and extracurricular activities. Teenagers today mostly worry about drama and interpersonal situations. They will be intrigued by the film because it contains a lot of drama. They could also be associated with clubs at the school. Teenagers make up the target demographic, and they are typically active on all social media. They adhere to well-known influencers who can promote the film. Except for the rare mobile game, teenage girls don't typically play a lot of video games—another opportunity for advertising. Teenagers typically only buy or rent things for enjoyable entertainment purposes rather than for serious purposes.

5. On mobile apps that teen girls typically play, we can advertise. We can place our advertising using the information from question 4 of the information form. At places and on websites where the target audience frequents on a regular basis.
Virtual:
1. Mobile Games - T.A. (target audience) will see while playing
2. YouTube - T.A. watches videos similar to film and see while watching
3. Influencers - T.A. looks up to influencers and if the influencers promote film, they would want to see
4. Social Media - Scrolling through apps like Instagram, Tiktok, and Snapchat, our T.A. would see ads for the film
Non-Virtual:
1. Plazas, any teenage "hangout" spot ex: Mercato
2. Billboards, can see while walking around, driving, biking, etc.

6. By placing ads in locations and on websites where my target demographic is likely to be found, I would engage them. By forcing audience members to discuss the movie, I might engage apathetic spectators. We can include a cliffhanger in the trailer to increase interest in interactive marketing among the target audience. Pull marketing or interactive marketing will be used by me. By making the ads look like things in which my target audience is interested and incorporating appealing themes, I will entice people to click on them. By getting them to discuss it by creating theories, I would utilize incentives to get them to repost.

7. We decided our poster should have a bright color tone with hints of dark hue to highlight the gloomy tones of the movie after conducting a google search for the CLIO awards. The target audience would be drawn in by the vivid color. It would be recognizable since we would be using a classic movie poster with faces, but we would also add intrigue by using dark tones over the faces while using bright colors for everything else. The primary hues would be pink, red, white, and black. Faces of the players, with a mixture of dark and bright tones, will be in the foreground. To draw in the intended audience, the background will be vibrant with additional vivid colors. To enter the weapons and equipment that will be utilized in the movie, we will employ iconography.

It is difficult to follow along because the filming was unsteady due to the cinematographer having to go behind our actor. With the illumination outside, the clips did not turn out as we had intended. According to the feedback we received, this film has to be reshot because it is difficult to grasp what we are attempting to do. For our group editor to have greater success with the new footage, the transitions must be smoother and we must have more time at beginning and end of the clip. My group will shortly re-film in the hopes of achieving our original goals. We also came to the conclusion that part of the dialog has to be changed. The background noise in the gas station made it challenging to hear the actors.
