Theme: Growing up and maturing

The strong trio has faced many challenges together but this book really showed how each of them has grown up. Not only are they going to college, but this theme was also shown when Percy could have used the chalice to become immortal but instead simply returned the chalice to its rightful owner.

I chose this song because it is very similar to Percy's character for many reasons. One being how the song's title is the same as his sword's name. Another is the song mentions the ocean and running away.

Plot Summary

Ganymede, the cupbearer of the gods, reaches out to Percy with the first quest in order to get into college: find and return the lost chalice before Zeus or any of the other Olympians realize it's missing. This stolen chalice isn't just a fancy cup though, anyone who drinks from it becomes immortal.

Conflict

Besides the physical conflict like fighting monsters and other things from Greek mythology, Percy goes through some internal conflict. The obvious one is whether or not to just drink from the chalice to be immortal but the bigger conflict e wants to leave for college when he knows he has a baby sibling coming soon.

He is considered the main character and the strongest one of the trio. He is a demigod which means he is half greek god half mortal. His greek side comes from the god Poseidon. He has a deep love for the ocean and would do anything for his freinds.

Annabeth Chase

Annabeth is the brains of the group. She has gotten the group out of many sticky situations. She is also a demigod, her greek side comes from the goddess Athena. She was gifted a yankees cap from her mother that makes her turn invisible when she puts the hat on.

Grover Underwood

Grover is the most resourceful and also the oldest one. He is not a demigod he is a satyr. This means he is half goat half human. He has a deep love for nature and also cares about his friends very much. Grover is smart but is also considered the comic relief in the series.

Setting

The book takes place in New York. They spend most of their time in high school but the author highlights the sections when they have to find the chalice.
