Technology can allow a greater diversity of students to cope with asynchronus learning, through the use of technological affordances to structure and scaffold self-directed learning.

E.g. Use of SLS to order access of materials, requiring students to reflect on certain questions before moving on, chunking of texts to make the time spent more meaningful for students who may otherwise find it harder to pick up on learning points

Intentionality is very important. The use of technology and employment of the modes. must serve the objectives/aims of the module. There is commendable effort to stitch the different modes of learning for it to come together seamlessly for one topic/module and switching from online/asynchronous learning back into the classroom (esp. if our HBL day is in the middle of the week). There is a lot of intention in the design but sometimes the flow might be disrupted by students who might not have completed their learning on the online modes and switching back to classroom becomes uneven as the students start on different footing.

Teamwork is also very important.

how planning for HBL helps with structure

planning for HBL days improve lesson planning by making us consider how to structure learning experiences. This helps as we may not always think about how to clearly articulate ideas we have. in this regard, asynchronous learning has some advantages over synchronous learning.
