3.) Who were the perpetrators and who were the victims? (name the leader of the movement and include an image) (who was targeted and why?) provide statistics

The young Turks were the perpetrators and the Armenians were the victims there was no real leader but a key spokesman for the Turks was Ahmed Rıza. The Armenians were targeted because they were the first place to declare Christianity as its official religion. They were neighbors with turkey and they were more successful than the other places in the ottoman empire but they had to pay more taxes and had limited voting rights as the ottoman empire was crumbling the Armenians wanted basic civil rights but the young Turks were not having it so they killed 600,000-1.5 million Armenians and drove away many more.

4.) How were the aggressors able to persecute and exterminate the other group of people? (Why were they not stopped?)

The Turks were not stopped because everyone in the ottoman empire did not like the Armenians. The Armenians were very successful they were very well educated. way more than the Turks their religion was Christianity and the Turks did not like that because they are Muslim. There was already established hate towards the Armenians. They tried to get rights because they were discriminated against but the Turks did not like that so they decided to go after the Armenians. They could not do anything because they didn't have an army and they couldn't ask for help because WW1 was going on and no major country could help them because they can afford to lose troops in this conflict that isn't connected to the war.

5.) How was the Genocide carried out? – Explain the Stages of the Genocide

It all started with the Armenians who wanted fair treatment and the leaders of the ottoman empire didn't want to give it to them. The Armenians started protests, the Turkish government officials and ordinary men ransacked the Armenian villages they killed and ran out many Armenians. The young Turks come into the picture wanting to Turkify the empire which was bad for the Armenians. WW1 started and the Turks took the side of the Germans and the Armenians were hoping the allies won so they could gain freedom easier. The Turks did not like this so they sent people out to kill hundreds of Armenian intellectuals. After that the Armenians were driven out of their homes they had to do death marches through the desert fully nude and they would die out there with no food and water if they stopped to rest they were shot on the spot they also had butcher battalions that were made up of criminals they drowned them they threw them off of cliffs they would crucify them and burned them alive. They would also take kids and convert them to Islam or make them their slaves. The women were taken enslaved and raped. The Turks deported some of the Armenians and stole their land. In the beginning, there were 2 million Armenians by the end of the genocide there were only 338,000 Armenians left.

6.)Explain what ended the genocide. Did the U.N. or any other nations or groups intervene to help? (if it did not end, what is the current status?)

With the adoption of the Genocide Convention by the United Nations in 1948 and the resolution on the non-imprescriptibility for legal action on the part of the victims of genocide adopted in 1968, a clear procedure has been established for prosecuting crimes against humanity. The problem was and is that such questions have to be sponsored by governments because the United Nations and the World Court were designed to serve a club of internationally recognized states. But no serious discussion on the question of Armenian monuments or other property has yet taken place. In fact, there has been a systematic refusal on the part of the government of Turkey or any organized group of its citizens to begin a meaningful dialogue on the genocide.

The ruling triumvirate of the Young Turks, all members of its central committee, were Talaat Pasha, Minister of the Interior and later Grand Vizier or Prime Minister, Enver Pasha, Minister of War, and Djemal Pasha, Minister of the Navy, and along with them, two ideologies, the actual architects of the genocidal process, Dr. Nazim and Dr. Shakir. These five individuals and others too were found guilty by these Turkish courts of planning and carrying out the destruction of the Armenian population. They were sentenced to death, unfortunately in absentia, because they had all already fled the country.
