When producing our film "The Unknown" we wanted our target audience to be around the youthful age of 15-25, both males and females. This age bracket was based around the fact that our film doesn't have any visible violence, but the imagination and common sense of the viewers would suggest the death of our victims would be of a violent nature. This removes the younger audience from the selection. However, the whole death aspect is on for a limited time and the majority of the time our piece just involves a horror like tone. To get a definite decision on 15-25 years being the suitable age bracket my group and I went off and selected a variety of people of ages from 15-30 to watch our piece and provide their opinions and input as to what they think the target audience's age should be. This low age group selection allowed us to believe a variety of effects could be successfully used and receive positive feedback as well as use a greater range of technology.

Cast and Characters

The cast and characters within our film reflects the target audience we've chosen due to the young/teenage cast and the 15-25 age range chosen for the target audience. This match between the age of the cast and the viewers allows the audience to relate to the characters within the final piece. This stereotypical view of young, male individuals being violent and constantly on the streets is contradicted within our opening and my group and I believe this appeals to the audience due to us being more fair and favoring the side of the younger individuals. This more fair and equal viewpoint may also expand the available audience due to the older generation believing the teenage society has adapted and improved both behaviour and intelligence wise.

Class

The class of an individual or group can be categorised into 5 different sectors. The audience of our product was chosen based upon class as well as other factors. The chosen class categorisation of our viewers is 3 of the 5: lower class, working class and lower middle class. This is mainly based around the fact that the age group of our audience is 15-25. A large portion of this bracket will still be considered unemployed or have only part time jobs due to them still being in full time education. In addition another large proportion of this age group won't have the qualifications needed to progress further up the class model. My group and I feel the class selection will be able to connect with characters within the piece due to them being of the same categorisation. The stereotypical attire of this chosen class is wore within our film, adding an additional link between the audience and the cast. Another similarity between the cast and the viewers would be the stereotypical home location of the chosen class and the set/location of our film. (A good quality but not overly large house).
