This time has been an awesome experience! I have had the opportunity to learn, engage, and carry out many new task that will enhance the classroom. I have also been given many tools that will strengthen my colleagues and allow the students at Dillard to become strong 21st century learners!! This retreat has changed my initial vision of the 1:1 initiative into a movement that will change me as a teacher and Caswell County forever!! :-) Loving me some Caswell Retreat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 <3 #Where are we going next??

While at the Caswell County retreat I learned a lot about some of the people I work with and that they have many of the same fears I have. I am excited to get started when we get back in creating lessons that I may be able to incorporate technology into, but am also more at ease about the fact that they don't have to be "pumpkin spice" everyday. I am also excited about beginning to explore the tools that Brittany shared with us and imagining how my students will be more engaged and excited about coming to school each day. As a teacher that has to meet with parents all the time I am very excited to try to use the Remind app to "remind" my parents of the meeting.

This experience has been very enriching. I have enjoyed learning about the different possibilities that the initiative will open up for my students and I. They will gain a whole new way of learning and that is very exciting. It really made me feel better that we will work hard to help change our community and culture to help make this a positive experience for the teachers and the students. We must stay positive, embrace and celebrate our learning opportunities, and work as a team to give our students better opportunities through this initiative. I am also exciting to go back and share the things that I have learned about Canvas! :)

We got an overview of CANVAS which can be used to manage on-line learning for classes. However, unlike Google classroom, it also manages grades and communication of deadlines and reminders. It also can grade some assignments and do item analysis.

In addition, there was much discussion of the culture we want to develop at Dillard and what our vision statement should be. We emphasized that technology is a tool to support and enhance learning. Ideally, we will work toward making the learning something more than can be done without using technology, such as communication with other schools and other cultures.

We also explored various tech tools that can supplement and enhance what we do with Canvas, including Tackk and Goose Chase.

During our time here at Blowing Rock with the Friday Institute, we were introduced to a plethora of technology applications that can be used within the school. Canvas will help us, as educators, to organize and communicate our lessons and content material with students and parents. Remind will help to keep parents and students up to date with important announcements within the classroom without giving personal contact information. Though at the moment we cannot fully implement Goose Chase, it allows for a great opportunity for students to participate in an interactive/technology scavenger hunt

I have really learned a lot this week. My favorite part was learning about Canvas. I feel that Canvas is going to be an amazing tool for teachers to keep things organized, keep in touch with the student and parents, and give out assignments. It will also be a great tool for the students. They can keep up with and submit their assignments and see when their work is graded. I also liked all the tech tools that we learned from Brittany such as Tackk, Remind and GooseChase. I think these will be fun and easy tools for us to use.
