To help you understand the difference, state laws are enactments that only need to be followed in that place, meanwhile, national laws have to be followed throughout the nation(US).<br><strong><em><mark>Example</mark></em></strong>: Same sex marriage, had been allowed in some states like California, where couples would go from a state where it wasn't allowed. After they got married they went to there home state, however, there was a question that originated due to same sex marriage not being a national laws.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em><mark>Checks and Balances</mark></em></strong> in the Government is defined as, every Branch is checked and evaluated by the other two branches (see Separation of Power) to make sure they stay under control.<br><strong><em><mark>Example</mark></em></strong>: The Executive Branch, which contains the President and Vice President, can be impeached/fired from the office by the Congress in The Legislative Branch. For example, President Bill Clinton who was impeached from the office.</div>]]></description>
