In high school I participated in this advanced academic program where I took higher level college courses and had the opportunity to test in order to receive credit for college. Some aspects of the program were that I was required to complete CAS hours (creativity, action, service). Throughout the 3 years I was required to complete a number of volunteer hours, and this opened my eyes to see the community I lived in and start paying attention to the world around me. Some memerable initiatives include: Coordinating a fundraiser collecting pink yogurt lids school-wide for Breast Cancer Research with my friends. Also having a bake sale where we raised money for victims of a terrible earthquake in Haiti. It showed me that small acts of love can make an impact on lives. I learned that I am not a helpless bystander regarding the brokenness of the world, and that every good deed mattered and the Lord was pleased to use the small sacrifices I made to bless people.
