Women leaving abusive relationships typically have a range of legal issues, but struggle to afford legal advice. The People’s Solicitors, in partnership with The Brigid Project, are establishing a legal portal and advice service for DV victim/survivors called "DVRedress". We will start in NSW and will extend elsewhere.

We are looking for two or three experienced solicitors with an understanding of trauma informed legal practice, and who are happy to work on an income share arrangement, and be paid on a matter by matter basis. It could suit solicitors on parental leave, or employed elsewhere but looking to help DV victims and earn a secondary income.

Most matters will involve family law, but we are also looking for solicitors experienced across of range of areas including personal injury, tenancy law, consumer law, wills and estates, child protection, defamation/breach of privacy, criminal, and employment law.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Front of House Law Clerk All-Rounder to join our team. This dynamic role combines administrative support, client interaction, contacting leads and legal assistance, making it a unique and rewarding opportunity for individuals with a passion for the legal field and exceptional customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Greet and assist clients, providing a warm and professional first point of contact.
Manage front desk operations, including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining a tidy reception area.
Handle client inquiries and direct them to the appropriate legal professionals.
Assist lawyers and paralegals with administrative tasks such as document preparation, filing, and data entry.
Maintain and organize client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Coordinate meetings, conferences, and appointments.
Handle incoming and outgoing mail, as well as courier and shipping services.
Manage office supplies and inventory.
Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient daily operations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; legal assistant or paralegal certification is a plus.
Prior experience in a law firm or legal setting preferred.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Team player with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
Offe previous experience using LEAP software (preferable but not essential)
Ability to speak another language (preferable but not essential)

In this matter, a female plaintiff had fibroids discovered in 2018 during her routine pregnancy (first) ultrasound which does not seem to be followed up adequately. She is 40+ & has expressed the desire to have another child to the doctors. She started feeling fibroids (due to size) & experiencing mental health related issues. She has been having consultations with the doctors & concerned about her fibroids' issues. In 2023, further investigations were done and at this stage, the only option was to go for a hysterectomy which was done a few months ago. She will now need to try IVF treatment for another child which she & her family desperately want to have. She works/has been working full time and recently started taking mental health therapy treatment. The husband had to/continues to assist in the household as she is unable to do many things she used to do before.
