The force publique was a group of everyday African soldiers and European officers. In 1879 they started working for Henry Montan stanly but they were formally the force publique army in 1888. They were the army for Kind Leopold's new state, Congo.

They were the people who actually killed the majority of the state. They were merciless and would beat people and kidnap on a daily basis. They would cut off people's hands if they didn't collect enough rubber for Belgium's rubber sales. They had the chance to not be guilty of these inhuman acts but they didn't. Instead they continued to abuse people even when it wasn't on their list of requirements.
