They knew the murders were two Italian men and that they escaped with more than $15,000. When Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo went to claim their car a police said that the car was connected with the crime and they were arrested and charged with the crime.

They had no history of violence on their criminal records or anything. What was brought up was their immigrant background and their refusal to go to the military. Despite people showing demonstrations of their innocence, Sacco and Vanzetti were executed for murder.
