Work from larger, simpler shapes to smaller, more intricate ones. Working 'from general to specific' and 'from large to small' will greatly improve the accuracy of your drawings.

To smooth out white charcoal, use a soft paintbrush in a back-and-forth motion. This pushes white charcoal dust into the pores of the paper, creating a flatter value - less 'graininess'.

Image A: On a scrap sheet of black drawing paper (very important, don't do this on your final drawing), draw a dense patch of light value to create some white charcoal dust.
Image B: Load up your paintbrush with charcoal dust by brushing it over the value in a back-and-forth motion.
Image C: You can now use the paintbrush as a drawing tool to create marks and 'washes' of smooth, subtle value.

Begin highlighting the surface with the white charcoal pencil, and then smooth out the marks using the paintbrush. Note that the paintbrush does not always create a perfectly even value. Smooth out uneven areas created by the paintbrush with the white charcoal pencil, and repeat if neccessary.

Team up with a partner

Your partner will be holding the dark background paper
Take at least 10 photos of your glass, using different angles & compositions - (Angled, close-ups, upside down glass, from the bottom, from the top, straight forward) make sure you capture the reflections! This is what will make your drawing interesting.
Switch with your partner so they can also get their photos.
Post your 3 best photos - this is the formative graded exercise.
You will choose the strongest, most interesting composition from 1 of these 3 photos
