Reflection - Marina

My favorite part of Project Ocean was hanging out with friends at the pool and talking about things. It was really fun to connect in a different setting than school classrooms, and I enjoyed the sessions very much.

Something I'm proud of is getting past some of the fear of ocean rocks. When I was smaller I had bad injuries against the really sharp rocks you find in the ocean bed, and also barnacles, ever since then I'm scared of them. But in Hayama, we have to walk across some waves crashing into rocks with scuba tanks, and I thought I couldn't do it but I did in the end.

Challenging - Using the new BCD provided by Mr. Broughton, because it wasn't the one I was used to. It had a different structure, and completely different regulator.

Next goal - Not be sick to 2/3 Hayama diving sessions. Although I was there for the 2nd one, I couldn't equalise meaning it was dangerous to continue.

Something I like and think is really important is how this year people were problem solving and thinking of ideas with a clear objective and a goal. Even if some things didn't work out, it still made people feel that they were achieving something.

Part of that process was talking to other people from outside of school and getting guest speakers in. I think these things made many people proud or happy with what they have accomplished in Project Ocean.

For next year I think it's important we keep trying to find more ways to help, and collect more data. However I feel like this year was a bit different to last, we had more goals, I hope next year can be even better and developed.

Also going to help with the seas clean up was fun.

Im very proud of being able to take actually actions for our seas. Also I think I got better at more small technical skills.

The best thing I learnt was that enoshimas sea has a lot of golf balls.

The challenge this year was coming for the pool sessions. Since I struggled to create time for it.

My goal it to get my license so I can dive down next time with Kuma-san

I also learned underwater skills like changing regulators, using signs, setting up buoy and generally move in the water.

Keep neutral buoyancy. Neutral buoyancy was difficult since I always went too far up since I was light.

My goal for next is to gather more data than before and finish the staionary camera device.

Hopefully it would include information about classification, habitat, size etc.

That is because during those times I actually felt useful because I was able to take even a small actions to help other people and the place in the future.

What is the best thing that you learned

The best things I learned is probably the diving skills I gained throughout this year. I think that for just a few pool sections and two open-water experiences my skills are pretty decent.

What was challenging

It was and still is really challenging for me how to find my perfect balance in the water. It is a really important skill that I want to focus on and master because it is the basic to do everything else.

What is your goal if you were to continue to be in project ocean

My goal is to try and see if instead of coming up with a problem ourself, see if we can talk to some people that live in Hayama and ask them if there is any specific issue that is effecting the waters.

I don't like spending my free time doing work, but this has helped me to get out of my comfort zone and spend time with people outside of school.

The challenging part was going to the pool session every week. Like I said on the top, I don't enjoy using my free time to do work, but from next year, I will try to overcome this challenge.
